IMPORTANT info about CONNECTABLE status, page 3

Is there a general aim to get more users connectable ? As the number of users is growing we get mor unconnectable torrents :-( This slows the overall torrent performance. But I guess this is a general problem we have to live with.

it is a problem neverending as it is... but guys, please don't take 'uncionnectable peers' and associate them with torrents... it's not about torrents, it's about users and their peers, that are associated with torrents, so only a user can be not-connectable, a torrent can't... anyways, right now the con/unconn ratio is something like 7:5  (1.4 :: 2800 vs 2000), but in a perfect (most acceptable perfect) situation we want to hape them as 3:1 (which would be 3600 vs 1200), so many users need to work out their connectability.

please take a notice, that being connectable means that other users will be able to connect to you when downloading something. if you are not-connectable, they can still download from you, but only in case they are also connectable and your client connects to them... see, the process works like this... you click on a torrent link, it opens in your client and then client announces on the tracker (tribalmixes.com in this case) that it is downloading something. website tracker responds to that, sending the client a list of all connectable peers, so that client would be able to connect to them (other users' clients or peers for short) to start downloading that something. when you download a torrent, your client connects to all people who has anything about this torrent (full copy or incomplete - doesn't matter), and requests some of the torrent's data from them. you will not be able to connect to not-connectable peers until they themselves do try to connect to you (in case you are connectable, in other case when neither you or them connectable - you won't be able to get data from them).. but this doesn't happen very often, as those peers in "seed-mode" are told by tracker to refresh their stats every 30-45 minutes, and that's the moment when not-connectable seeds will find out if someone is downloading these seeded torrents. so that's the only moment for a not-connectable seed to connect to a connectable leeching peer. if it fails, it will take it another 30-45 minutes to request leechers again and try to connect to them. that is the reason when users with all not-connectable seeds suffer slow uploads (1-5kbps) : because by the time they (clients) find out that someone is leeching, that leecher will probably complete the downloading process.

so to summarize this all... connectable seeds will always be first to start uploads to a new leecher, while not-connectable seeds may not even get into the process for this leecher, if he/she completes downloading in less than 30-45minutes, which is the period seeds update their stats with the tracker and tell how much was uploaded (leeching clients do updates every 10 minutes, because they need more often than seeds to see if new seeds popped up or whatever). connectable leechers can take advantage of all seeds, if they download at slow speed for more than an hour, giving those not-connectable seeds time to find out about their leech and to try to connect to them leechers to offer their data.. this all 'not-connectable seeds' thing goes same for not-connectable leeching/downloading peers, only they update stats every 10 minutes...

Thanks for this big explanation. Then there is a difference between connectable in case of bittorrent protocol and connectable status of single torrent file at tribal mixes ?

I was asking because quite a lot of people mention slow seeds in shout box. I know that this topic becoming connectable is not an easy one. I had to figure this out mayself over a whole weekend when I was new to bittorrent (and nobody told me that port forwarding doesn't work with ics sharing under windows). And you're absolutely right - this will always be a problem. I just was aware about too many users being unconnectable as tribalimixs is growing  that much ;-)

first of all, I have to say I've read ALL the threads 'bout this..
I got a 0.09 ratio ..and just 8MB away from the minimal 0.1 ratio that would allow me to download torrents again.. I'm having several problems.. 1st, my connectability? I'm seeding a torrent, but just CAN'T get users to connect to me.. I see 2-3 peers in swarm, but can't connect to any.. (tried the stopping/starting thing several times, but no results) ..I'm using uTorrent.. DOUBLE-checked ALL settings, port numbers.. firewall, etc etc.. and STILL can't cet ppl to connect to THIS PARTICULAR torrent!!  (got no problems when seeding the mininova ones)  ..so I find it kinda suspicious..
2nd thing.. is there a limit to the number of torrents seeded? it seems I can only seed ONE!!  (if I open a torrent with ALREADY DOWNLOADED files in the RIGHT folder, it doesn't recognise them or something..)   ..HELP anyone!    ..and thanx in advance!   cheers!

first of all, when users write posts like this, all i do is check if the user is seeding right now or not. you aren't seeding anything at the moment, so what's all the fuzz about? you want to seed for an hour and be happy with it? no, if you want to download and fix your ratio - you have to seed 24/7, cause people download stuff every second of the day, so someone will dl torrents you're seeding maybe in a few hours, and that would help you with your ration, but no, nothing will be any use, because you are not seeding anything. any more questions???

it's true.. sorry, mate..  my laptop was down a couple of hours (I went to the gym).. seems it froze.. I pretty much never shut it down..   but I'm having the same problem again.. it says "Peers: 0 of 6 connected"  ..and when clicking my username here on tribal, and the details to the torrent I'm currently seeding, it shows I'm not connectable..  (!????!!)  ..which I truly find weird, since I could download/upload other stuff from diffenret trackers..

you must seed ALL you download from here, EVERYTHING. not 1 file. and that torrent has 6 SEEDS, means 1 and other 5 people are seeding, but 0 leeches, means noone is downloading this torrent. 20 other users have downloaded that file after you, so despite connectivity of yours, you'd be able to seed lots of data even on this one.. why you (all of you, my friends) always blame someone for your own mistakes?? not reading rules, supposedly similar everywhere is wrong. not following them is also wrong, but more to that : it's punishable. and whoever is punished then is forced to do what he/she haven't done before.. it is all kind of a circle that must be walked through once.

Forgive me, but I'm not blaming anyone but myself!  Right now I'm seeding 5 of the sets I've downloaded (deleted the .nfo and .sfv from the other ones and that's the reason I can't seed 'em also) ..but still, no leechers.. or am I not connectable?? I've read the FAQ-s, the threads, the post regarding my problem carefully..  all settings seem right..  so could it be my uTorrent? (already created rule for uTorrent to be allowed to download/upload anything.. and the rest of my torrents seem to work just fine.. but I'm getting the yellow circle at the bottom though :( ..)
what should I do then? Already tried everything!  Thanx!

EDIT: I've been seeding ALL the sets for almost 3days now.. and haven't uploaded even 1MB!!!  :(
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

you have to post your upload in the "[spp1] Upload [Offer]s and [Request]s right here" forum, and if anyone is interested, you'll get the opportunity. Although you can SEED that you've downloaded :)
