Demo Scene (specifically its music part)

have you heard about this branch of creative creativity called DEMO SCENE?

demoscene is such a scene, where people create special effects on computer, most of the time they code them, like simplest things - screen savers for winamp, all of them are effects demoscene "brought" into the world. there are different branches there, like big demos, small intros, 4kb intros (file on disk is 4kb, but it can do amazing things), even 256b intros, written using ASSEMBLER language and machine codes (bigger ones - of course - using normal programming languages, not machine codes)..

and there's music branch, demo music is stuff you can hear in simple games sometimes, or whatever, people compose it themselves, they don't really mix, but it's still a very prominent branch and general direction. some release music packs, those are like albums with front-end software to play them, some even mix tracks, most famous mixer could be DUNE from group ORANGE. there is too much to talk about, so if anyone is interested, i can put up some demos here, or rather links to them, some music, some art (that's whole another branch - graphics pixeled as in drawn pixel by pixel, rendered in 3d software, even text mode graphics)... and many other branches...

wanna check out some stuff right off the top? i just contacted a long time friend of mine from Moscow, he composes music for demos, for games, for competitions, he even once composed music for my projects, when i was back in russia...

here you go (his is music in this intro, and intro is playing in DOS, screen is filmed on camera, i guess, intro is nothing special, but could serve as an example):

here intro means "intro code like program", not like AVB has intros to his sets, this intro is a software. coded, not rendered in some other software, all effects are calculated while program runs =)

here's example of his (name is MANWE) music made for some game

a bit slow, but you know... MANWE is very creative, makes music from jazz to organ concert style to techno and stuff, i am going to ask him maybe to give me a few tracks (not mixes) to post here. they are very small usually, and can be played with winamp. not mp3. usually it's s3m, it, xm, etc - old formats of music made in trackers, hehe another coincidence, but trackers in this case are little software programs, like fruity loops and shit, only a bit different..

yes, i used to be part of the demoscene. i made a few small intros (under DOS), some said that my snow effect was like real and has never been overshadowed, i also made to disk magazines, with articles and stuff like that, and MANWE made music for one of them, i have also been a leader of one infamous ASCII-ART group called SECULAR, under same nick - slash, i practices new school ascii, doing logos and other stuff, and most beloved style and direction - faces of people, stuff like KFC has that logo, basically two colors - areas filled with symbols (most used - $ dollar sign) and areas filled with empty spaces, and smooth lines, the trick was to make this anti aliasing i.e. lines to be smooth. many of you seen old-school ascii - i.e. pics made with |\/':() and other simple symbols, but my branch was smooth pics.. i can show some.. my group released about 30 artpacks, each with 20-50 pics in them, well, it's been very interesting back in the day...

if someone is into this, or wants to check it out - let me know, i can continue this thread.. or at least show off some of my works...

some of our artpacks can be found here: https://artscene.textfiles.com/ascii/secular/ not all, we did more, i left to USA in 2001 and kinda stopped, the went for 2-3 more years and also dispersed.. for best results need to run the little .com file included in zips to see the real anti-aliasing, if opened in windows notepad and shit - will not be very good, although with monospace font it can kinda look something...
