Does anyone have anything else to add? Old thread and tons of new users

p.s. never seen mine organized, its a mess here and there

actually I'm in this problem and I', trying to organize 1 of my external hdd and i was looking for a software to help in this, and I was trying to sort them by dj name but it took me alot of time and also there is some dj's I've got only 1 set for them so I'm not gonna create a folder for 1 set , i really like the idea of months folders I'll try it

i have folders for trax and sets, and theyre sorted in date.. latest stuff on top.its simple
no programs to mash it up

ASharara, i like your way of doing it for sets.
My sets are just placed in one folder, and the sets usually have the date on them
i also keep everything arragened by the 'Date Added'
My 320kb Tracks are in a DJ folder, split into MiniFolders (for my CD's) Mix 1 (Techno) Mix 2 (Techno) Mix 3 (tech House) etc..
on the CDs i burn, i write down the date. and its all in a big CD binder...
i complicate things...
but its really quite simple.. and i know where everything is

I like your way but it seems hard or time consuming.

Same here

I do it pretty much different:
1. My own 'digitalized CDs'
I store them in genre --> artist --> album/mix
2. DJ mixes
Artist --> mix
I keep the ones I like pretty much on my hds and the rest is beeing burnt on DVDR
Once I'm done with archiving all my cd collection I'll store all files on a NAS system under genre/artist. And of course I'll have backups on external hds. DVDR is not the best medium to keep files for a long time ...
The way for me is o keep it SIMPLE. I use the program 'mediamonkey' and the best way for me is to have a simple file system (described above) including correct file tagging. This means to put all relevant additional information into the tags. The file organization is simple and I stil have lots of information with tags if I want to.
