Looking for minimal dj with periodic mixes, page 1

joachim_vanhauwaert user on December 16th, 2015 / post 68962
Hey,

I used to be a really big fan of the dj mixes over at www.telekind.de, but sadly, he stopped mixing a few years ago. He used to play kind of 'concept' mixes, with popular new releases from bordercommunity, kollektiv turmstrasse, alex smoke, minilogue ...

Does anyone know of a good minimal techno/progressive DJ, aimed more at lounging and listening than partying, who releases new mixes every once in a while?

Thanks

I don't know, but what comes to my mind is the mixcloud-account of the BPitch Control Label: https://www.mixcloud.com/BPitchControl/

Minimal applies to them, they're definitely progressive with being Berlin's most important label for electronic music and with being centered on the support of new, upcomming artists aswell as existing one's, they're definitely progressive. Tthe label owner is a women and an (excellent   ) DJ herself (Ellen Allien) , Paul Kalkbrenner is a star here in Germany, and who's imo. the most talented of all of them, is Sascha Funke, on whom I became attentive after seeing him in Paul's Film "Berlin Calling" , where he has a short feature performing his song "Mango" .

Someone I can also recommend very much is "Anthony Rother" , but it's hard to find recordings from him, because he writes and produces everything himself (he doesn't DJ but performs with a set of Synthesizers) , and while he's famous in the scene, especially in the german minimal scene, I don't think that too many people from other countries already had the joy to get to know his music. You can find his performance at the Loveparade 2007 in Essen here, it's imo legendary:

I think you have to search for recordings from both, as they're scattered around the internet. Tribalmixes has quite a lot from Ellen Allien, some things from Paul Kalkbrenner, I'm trying to publish as much from Sascha Funke as I'm able to get, if quality is acceptable, Mixcloud is another good source for some things of BPitch, most of the recordings there are unfortunately low quality, Anthony got quite a lot on Youtube, and there are several forums where people post uploads on 1-click-hosters, unfortunately, those are only available for a short time in most cases.

And if you like Bordercommunity: Have you already noticed, that I published a 16GB+ 150+ Mixes collection with everything I could find from James Holden? Minimal definitely applies to some of those recordings and  he's also definitely very progressive and (imo. ) the most talented DJ on the world after Nathan Fake, though both could actually share one spot, as Nathan imo. is more creative while James simply has admirable skills at choosing music except sometimes (some of his newest mixes just make me  :dots:  :jump:  ) , his transitions are as complex as a song sometimes and he also mixed the Balance 005 aswell as he wrote the song Lump, which both have legendary-status at me and my friends.

With the 16GB torrent you're definitely making a good choice, but you imo. should give all of the musicians I mentioned a chance. Berlin is sometimes referred to as "the capital of electronic music" , and not knowing Ellen Allien is like not knowing the head of electronic music from that city. Sascha Funke is probably like the heart and Paul Kalkbrenner is not a star for no reason. He produces and writes his music all himself, just like Anthony Rother who's also is heavily talented. Don't think so much and especially don't debate about it. Go for it, and don't forget to catch up the music from Booka Shade otw., they're also from Berlin, and they're absolutely excellent. Don't only look into the direction of England. Other countries may have electronic machines, but the country that is the machine for electronic, is Germany. Just imagine that crazy happening, that the biggest party of the world (the Loveparade) was declared to be "a demonstration for love" when it started. The founders of it thought "how can we party as big as possible" , so they chose the biggest city Germany has, and they thought "how can that party not be stopped in a country of beaurocrats" , so they said "it's a demonstration" , and as everybody in Germany has the right to demonstrate, Berlin couldn't do anything about up to 2.5M (!!!) people visiting it for one day, and leaving a big mess. The citizens all had to pay for removing that mess again, but most of them were ok with it for a long time, as they felt "this is just Berlin" . I once was there. In Berlin, you don't have to ask yourself, if there's a possibility to go onto an electronic music party on monday 11 'o clock in the morning. You just visit certain pages in the internet, and there will be someone having written "monday 10 'o clock we meet at  " . This is because the clubs are closed at that time, but in Berlin, the parties don't stop then, they go 24/7 and Berlin is big enough, that those people only have to visit the same place once every several years, so nobody calls the police, because he feels disturbed. Much more likely, you'll see several people working for the last at the party themselves, because more than they're police-men, they're people living in Berlin, and Berlin means Politics, but also Art and Life, and the last two are so heavily influenced by Electronic, as noone having not been there can imagine it. If it's not possible to get from A to B in munich without the police passing you once, it's not possible in Berlin to stay at the same place, without the Electronic party coming towards it at some time ^^ . It's really funny, escaping the Electronic party in Berlin is impossible. It basically would need to stay informed and actively evade it, but then, it would simply happen, that somone starts playing Electronic at the place to which you evaded, and that people start partying there ^^ . Berlin means living with Electronic music. I don't think you find this anywhere else in the world.
