uTorrent version 3.4.x fail

When I started to upload my James Holden megapack, I set my client to "super-seed" , which is advised, if one is the only seeder in the swarm (so the person releasing the torrent-file) , because it manages that no pieces get uploaded twice with much higher efficiency, and it also punishes peers that don't upload towards the other users by not giving them any more packats.

There was one thing interesting:

bobross started very early on this client and was uploading great amounts of it towards other users, however, this was only possible, when I seeded in normal mode, whenever I switched to super-seed, his and other clients got refused. It's interesting, because all of these clients were uTorrent version 3.4.x . It seems, as if this client was not compatible, with the seeder using super-seeding mode, because when bobross installed qBittorrent, everything was instantly fine, as it was also for the people using Vuse, libtorrent or older versions of uTorrent (i. e. 2.2.1.) .

So another reason for you to switch away from the bloated and bad uTorrent 3.x.x and get yourself a good client.

It's really funny. I can see the uTorrent 3.4.x clients connecting, asking for a part of the torrent, and either me or their client refuses the connection, probably because super-seed-mode wants to send a specific tile that nobody has, and uTorrent 3.4.x insists on getting another tile, therefore no connection.

Well, you know now what you got to do.

i'd say superseed mode is a relic, and it was simply removed from utorrent's "understanding"... you're right, it probably wants one piece, but receives an offer for another piece, and refuses, since it;s not what it's asked for, thinking this piece it wants is not available at all... i wonder if there's an option for superseed-ing in utorrent 3.4...

super-seeding is available in uTorrent, only it's name is slightly different, they called it "initial seeding" .

And after reading a lot about it, I don't think it's a relic slash. With super-seeding, the 2nd seeder is ready to seed sometimes in less than 50% of the time, than standard chaos-upload would take! Super-seeding is only for the very special situation, where you release a torrent, are the only seeder, and have more than 2 peers. In all other situations, it's either worse, or doesn't work at all, so while needing to be handled carefully, it still is a great option for torrent-creators.

uTorrent 3.4.x probably has a default setting to download files sequentially, to support the "great uTorrent streaming" possibility. Sequential downloads and super-seeding ofc. are incompatible, which is easily understandable.

To show you the power of superseeding slash:



Look in the upper right corner, share-ratio 1.1. Now look at the number of peers and how far they got: About 10 peers shortly before becoming seeders!

This is only possible with superseeding, because my client send every bit of the torrent to only one person, and that person shared it with the swarm. Without superseeding, the same tile gets send to multiple peers, therefore, the peers cannot share as much between themselves as with superseeding.

When the swarm gets its 2nd seeder, I'll instantly switch to normal mode, because then, superseed wouldn't work properly and cause problems, but before that, it's great :) .

I upgraded from uTorrent 1.x.x a long time ago to uTorrent 3.4.9 on this computer.  Then I stopped using the software altogher for a couple years.  Is this no longer a good client to use? (It was preferable back in the Suprnova/Demonoid days).

I also notice that 3 of my 4 connections are good, but the one to the server gets rejected.  Is this because of an old client?

Okay, going to try Vuze.  It kind of reminds me of the old Azureus clint I used to use before uTorrent (Java seemed to be laggy back then, but it's been a while so we'll give it a shot again).
