Trance has been massive for years & years as we all know but in my opion its on its last legs,so how do you get trance fans to give other DJs from what they would call not trance a chance,I'm guessing dark progressive would be the way to go for them or Tech House? There is just so many awesome DJs out there now & I just don't have enough time in the day to listen to everything.
Leon Rasmussen asked the question who would I reccomend so let's all help him out with this one, firstly Leon I'm going with Darin Epsilon this Dj for me can do no wrong he delivers on every set no problem,he also used to have his own show here on TM,also

Cid inc,Max Cooper,Soundexile,Tom Beltor,Suffused,Sandra Collins,Myra Alexa,Pole Folder,N-tchbi,Matteo Monero,Henry Saiz,Glenn Morrisson,Erich LH,Denis A,Dark Soul Project & loads more of course there is Sasha & Digweed but if you dont know them already then your on the wrong site lol, anyone else care to add to how to convert a trance fan.

Craddock, usually trancers love music that makes you move! Am i right???

I don't think you will find a trance liker be able to get down to tech straight away...

I always admired Ferry Corsten and Paul Van dyk who errred on the side of progressive in their trance. of course Ferry has gone all wonky and Paul is still dabling in what he always has....So this rules these two out...

I have popped a few in the shoutbox but i will add them here for the good of all TM forum watchers...

Deepfunk, Fernando Ferreyra, Luis Junior.... Max Cooper mix from Transitions recently should not be missed. Best from 2012 for me so far...

Craddock your list above is admirable...

:-/

If you only like one type of music (in this case Trance) then I think it's a tough one to expand the horizons without getting out there into the clubs in my opinion.

I will listen to breaks, house, garage, techno, DnB, funk, trance, oldskool, disco, dubstep, ambient/chillout electro or anything that has some quality in it.

So I cannot really answer that question as I have never needed converting from one genre to any others.

I am surprised that there are people out there in this day and age that only listen to one type still. It's so much easier these days to get hold of all types of music via the net.

When I was first going clubbing I remember that everything was house, house, house for a while until I became fully educated.

All I could find was Wobble in Birmingham (who played filtered disco and US style house/Chicago house/New-Yorkern Soul) for something a bit different. Which was why I got into psy-trance and techno and DnB and Garage. But it was hard work finding decent nights that had something other than house on the menu.

When all these alternative styles took off more, I was delighted. I was (still am) a big house fan, but there was always a house overload to me.

Funny thing is, as much as I love deep house, progressive house (Sasha & Warren are my fave DJ's still) I also really like deep Scandinavian techno too, like they play at Atomic Jam.

I used to love hard house and hard-techno/acid-techno at the same time though.

A lot of that is because I was exposed to whatever type of music in question in a club environment, via a club sound system and with a party atmosphere. As a result it is so much easier to just 'get it' and buy into it.

If you only sit down at home and play somebody various mp3 tracks through an average pair of speakers without any atmosphere/booze etc or the club lighting to help get the vibe going, it is difficult to get people hooked sometimes.

I have never really fully got into any style without hearing it in a club a few times first, it was after that I would start buying the records and making note of the DJ's on the bill and maybe searching for tapes/CD's or mp3's by the same name.

One of the best clubs I used to go in the Midlands played a total mix of UK Garage, UK Speed Garage, UK Drum and Bass and Chicago House and breaks. Half the stuff sounded like dubstep does today, but this was back in 1995.

The breaks tracks would be in there because the tempo otherwise was just too much. When Trance started to be called Trance in about 96/97, then they played that too. Hard House took off around that time and that was put on the bill as well.

It was such a varied musical bill, but not that eclectic, as all the different genres were played in sets of about an hour or so (except the breaks). So as a result, the punters were able to really get into the music before the style shifted. The same place also used to run an oldskool (rave/acid house) room in the same building at the same time!!! Immense. I loved it all.

So with my education taken like that, I just don't see why people can't like all form of electronic music really. I suppose I was lucky!

To get back to the point though, I still listen to Trance. I actually think that certain sub genres of Trance are slowly dying or becoming so stagnant they will kill themselves.

But I disagree that Trance as a genre is dying. It has become like House or Techno or Breaks. That is to say that it does not have just one sound. Trance is an over-arching name for a bunch of style that cross over to house or progressive or techno or electro.

The cheesy Armin stuff has had its day. Particularly the vocal candy shop stuff.  :shoot2:

But the deeper darker styles (like J00F's) and the harder 140+ bpm stuff (Activa, Kearney, E-Clip, Cockle) and the Tech-Trance stuff is coming back now (slowly). Not to mention that a whole new generation is starting to discover psy and goa style. All of it non-cheesy.

I think the same is true with prog-house.

Real Trance (classic Trance) and Progressive-House of the darker deeper style are pretty much one and the same to me. They evolved side by side in the clubs and DJ's like Diggers, Seaman, Warren, Oakey, Sasha and J00F played tracks that could be called Trance or Prog-house .... depending on the flip of a coin.

So the re-emergence of deeper/darker house is not a surprise given that the deeper/darker harder trance is on the up again. That is how I see it, because that is how I heard it all play out when I started going clubbing in 94.

Trance will never die 100%, it's like saying House will die or Techno.

All that happens is that its popularity ebbs and flows from time to time and certain sub-genres disappear as certain other sub-genres become more popular or burst into existence. I hope the cheesy stuff passes away though.

Yeah, Trance peaked around 1999/2000/2001 (whatever!) and it's popularity has been slowly sliding ever since ........ but I don't really care as I listen to everything really!

Like I say, the cheesy stuff has to die a death and fast ..... a bit like with all that electro-house and funky-house crap and minimal-techno ...... it doesn't do well in the long term and fades away.

I feel it's future is in the deep, dark and techy 'UNDERGROUND'!!!  :strongbench:

Back to its roots so as to say.  :yoji:

While we're on the topic of Trance, what the feck happened to Ferry Corsen?!!!!!

Pffffttt.

He used to play it fast and melodic (if not that hard though) and now it's all bleepy electro crap.

:shoot2:

His productions are also naff these days too.

What happened to the likes of his 'System F - Shot out of the Blue'? That was more on the money, but that was over ten years ago.

Yeah, was kind of my point, (I think) except I never really quite put it like that !

Sometimes ppl can get stuck in a genre & then not really no what else is out there so Leon needed a bit of help & hopefully now listens to more then just trance,i personally listen to as many genres as possible but that's not for everyone.
So that's kinda the point. ;-)
