ThrashIRC is not a virus, it's been tested by lots of sites. I'm sorry it didn't work on your particular rig mallam. I hope you were using version 2.7 downloaded from www.thrashirc.com. Some download sites alter the installer,to add software they're promoting, and screw up the registering of the required DLLs for ThrashIRC.

I develop ThrashIRC on Windows 7 64bit Pro. So, it's targeted for that OS. I also test it on Windows XP X64 in VirtualBox. On my rig, ThrashIRC has been running 36 days straight. I'm a heavy IRC user, and I use the ZPAQ archiver built into ThrashIRC constantly to backup small stuff.

ThrashIRC is not a virus, it's been tested by at least 50 sites. I'm sorry it didn't work on your particular rig mallam. I hope you were using version 2.7 downloaded from www.thrashirc.com. Some sites alter the installer, and screw up the registering of the required DLLs.

I don't know why AVG reports it as a virus. I use MSE and kaspersky, I scan my dev rig and server, and the MSI installation package, before I release a new MSI installation package to public.
The big sites have tested it too, CNET, Softpedia, PCWORLD (UK one anyway) it has clean badges from all.

I do know Comodo users say it's black listed by that security suite. I think Comodo black listed it because I didn't purchase a certificate of authenticity from them or their affiliates. I doubt they even tested it.

About the ThrashIRC crashing...You need Windows XP service pack 2 minimum for it to run correctly. I don't test it on WinXP 32bit SP2, but I know people that run it on that.  Also, I know for sure some download sites screwed up my installer, and a essential DLL wasn't being registered correctly. This is the fix https://www.thrashirc.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1337

Okay, I'm done...I have some Killing Floor to play
It's cool you guys are interested in IRC, most people are concerned about web 2.0 social networks. I still like IRC, been using it since 95' and probably will until no IRC servers are running.
