Still non-connectable?, page 1

Being non-connectable means you are a hit-and-runner.
Do you like that. I don't.

Because I don't have enough bandwidth to waste for hit-and-runners I'll ban those who being non-connectable download from me.
So, check your connectivity first.

You are welcome to ask me for help with this. Just find me in Skype.

Spas

i find it alarming that so many are non connectable. It is common to have 6 or 7 snatchers that are all non connectable on a new torrent.

So long as their are enough people to share the music I don't see the problem.

what's important ? banning people from listening to the music    or not taking for granted the point that you have the means & resources available not only to download a wealth of great music yourself but also to share it with others .

THe system is already set-up so that non-connectible peers will eventually get such a low ratio that they will only be able to download ratio free torrents.

everyone should have excess to music for it's as vital to growth as information   .

Banning is a form of fascism & usually a very hypocritical way of trying to control others from doing something that the enforcer does them self(  example banning cannabis or other recreational drugs in country's but allowing & even promoting other drugs like alcohol. In the past & still in some country's religions ban free information & certain books which don't stick to the dictatorships point of view  ) .

ok your connectible & sharing music. well done for you, your helping share the music  :-D

Yes i do agree that having the talent here seeding what they do is just fantastic.

Being Connectable is very important in maximising the upload potential for the user downloading and seeding that torrent. I think what Spas is trying to get through is that the benefit to the User (through increased ratio), the benefit to the uploader (upon initial seeding) and the benefit to the whole TM community is significantly more productive when you are 100% connectable. Spas feels that this may be a way to make people realise the importance.

The system is very fair and it only takes a small amount of seeding time on all (yes all) the torrents that you have downloaded to amass a considerable ratio. Ratio free or not.

I am in agree too, but on my side I typically seed a few hundred torrents at a time, and it kills me every time I have some one Dl less then 1k/sec while I have other whom can Dl over 50k/sec but for some reason all those non connectible members make my connectible ones go into queue because I simply can not sustain so many connections at one time...

And Just so u know, I am on Comcasts 16 mb/s service and my computer is a Intel pentium ES200 Dual core processor, with 4GB DDR Sdram... So I think it is not an issue with my seeding so many..

What do you think? Am I hurting my self allowing so many seeds?  :-/

Salsa

Like you i try to seed 300-400 torrents and my connection runs at 60 - 100 % upload. There seems to just be so many users out there with ratio concerns and alot of them can be simply solved by becoming connectable and maximising the amount of data uploaded when a leecher becomes available, instead of just seeding at 1-2 kb/s.

Man , it is a really good thing to offer that many seeds! I take my hat off to you! I am pretty sure that with the machine you have you should be able to seed a 1000. I am know Slash and Fabric were seeding 1000 at one stage. How many files are uploading at one time on average?

salsablightning Tribal Darkness on May 11th, 2009 / post 29611
On average i probable have 12 active seeds with anywhere from 12 to 24 leechers... Some times as little as 4 seeds active and it will go over 20 at times.

I recently switched to utorrent, so i only have like 100 seeds on there so far, but i have over 700 seeds on my bit torrent program. But i only allow bit torrent to run when I am at home, usually utorrent is running 24/7. I have tried to allow more active connections, but it starts to slow me down browsing the net really bad... or trying to talk to my friends on Skype... As I mainly do voice chats rather then having to type..

BTW: I had a question on torrent programs in this same forum it is a couple topics down now, the good/bad/ugly or something like that... I tried to move all my seeds to utorrent but had problems every time i started utorrent i had to recheck and update files locations even though i never move them. LOL so for now I am running both utorrent and bit torrent. *YIKES*

First of all I tried to attract the attention of those so many non-connectable friends of our that cannot essentially contribute to our community.
I think all of us want fast download and a normal ratio of 1.0. These things simply mean - users capable of uploading. If many were capable of uploading then many had already downloaded. And when many are involved in the sharing  then there would be many downloads per a torrent, there would be fast download speed, there would be normal share ratio.
So, everything starts with the UPLOAD.

A non-connectable peer is capable of uploading only when while downloading its peer is interested to download from him. That is why he cannot upload enough to keep a normal ratio and  the  result is known - System ban.

Second, I have offered a help in resolving non-connectable problems. I think I can identify any network problem.

Third I am mad about sharing HD movies now (8 GB and higher file size). Having an upload speed of 2 mb/s (250 kB/s) my upload takes 100% of the upload bandwidth all the time (24/7). Acctually, this way I keep my ratio which allows me to download.
That is why I don't want to seed to a non-connectable peer. I do not have enough bandwidth to share with people that do not share with us. When I have unused bandwidth I seed The Pirate Bay - absolutely unknown peers but sharing.

Finally, as to the salsa's question:
We can discuss the tuning the BitTorrent application in a dedicated topic. It would be very interesting topic.
I have an Intel 3.4 Ghz duo core processor 3.25 GB (4 GB) RAM and it cannot be loaded at 12% under a my current download/upload at 5 mb/s/2mb/s (and a Browser opened). As to the number of the active torrents I have reach some limit at about 3,000 torrents using Azureus 3.0. Now I use Vuze 4 and I haven't try to find some limit.
But I haven't run on a limit having used uTorrent.

Thanks for you input Spas. I too would be interested in some tuning of my Utorrent software.

Nice a positive progressive solution  :-D  & not a negative backward enforcement

How nice!

Still non-connectable
and want to seed?

Then run Vuze 4.2.0.2.
Wait a couple of minutes (3-5 - I don't know how long) for Vuze to start uploading.
If it does not start press Update Tracker.

After updating tracker (automatically every 30 min) Vuze will connect you to connectable peers if present.
