I think that the judging should be done by the listeners (aka members) of tribalmixes.com and not a panel of "judges". The truth of how good a DJ (or "team") is whether or not they can make people dance. There are plenty of "DJ's" DJ's out there but the proof is in the pudding. There should be a special section devoted to the contest in which the members of tribalmixes.com get to download the sets and vote on them. It really seems like the only real way to judge a DJ competition IMO.

Mixing isn't always about dancing. mixing is something more.

But regardless of the motives for which one mixes, there are some elements (i.e. beatmatching, harmonics etc.) which are present in all mixes and which deem a dj as great.

There is however a lot to be said about how mixes should be judged and by whom in order to give an objective critique. But is that really what we want in the end? An over simplification of an artistic gesture?

so felix73 my opinion is that in a contest, the best way to judge something is as objectively as possible by taking into account all common elements of mixing (which apply to all dj sets) and on top of that to add a criteria (or more) for Originality etc. In real life however, the judges are always the listeners, who offer a subjective opinion almost all the time (i.e. i like DJ X because he/she dresses good).

hope this helped you.
