IDC 2009 - pre-organizational-discussions - ALL WELCOME

slash ProDanceCulture on September 29th, 2008 / post 27099
IDC 2009 is coming very soon... again only 3 months left, time to start gathering people together, registering teams and even preparing the music.... teams are mostly agreed by community to downsize to 3 DJs per team, as well as International rule to be dropped, although this last one isn't set final just yet. also IDC 2009 will have some catches, like using Dj's own tracks or remixes or any other productions in the mix, possibly with links to where those tracks are present to download or purchase, to prove the ownership of course, cause that will give teams extra points, as long as possibly to-be-kept last year's rule of bonuses for all entries of one team being distinctly different musical genres. time to start talking about this as well...

here you're welcome to say anything about anything any way related to IDC 2009. please, don't be shy!!!

Slash.... I am looking around the forums at least once a day. I am not entirely sure what went on, but there must have been a delay in the original post being up on TM.

Is the judging going to similar to what IDC 2008 was?
slash ProDanceCulture on October 2nd, 2008 / post 27139
yeah, probably... this time around judges will not know what/who they're judging. we'll do this incognito... the voting, i mean... of course people will know the teams and participants, say we'll have 10 teams, but then i think it'll be the best for judges to get 30 mp3 files all named as 1.mp3, 2.mp3, ..., 30.mp3, each file will be cleaned up, all revealing id3/id3v2 tags will be removed. so after all it'll only be possible to guess who is who, and that is only for a good good judge who knows music/style/tracks of some of the contestants and can compare and decide for him/herself that this might be that very dj, but anyways, we'll do it this way... and yes, dates will be set final from the beginning for each of the periods for each group of people involved - registrations & submissions for contestants, listening & submitting the scores for the judges... if someone falls behind - noone is waiting for them. it is because of the incognito voting - it will take some time, of course, maybe 2 weeks again or something, and while that goes on other users might get too much excited and after that lose it and lose the interest... yeah... so if some team doesn't register on time or doesn't submit all mp3s on time - it will be disqualified. this is said...

so far changes to the rules and regulations of the upcoming IDC 2009 are: 1) teams will consist of three (3) djs. 2) teammates  do not have to be from the same country (questionable, might not be introduced after all). 3) judging will be dj-nameless (blind).

some of the things i'm thinking of and planning to run main-page-polls about (also they will definitely tell people some more about IDC and how it'll go, introduce some to the IDC too): 1) should we encourage djs to use their own tracks and remixes as much as possible, maybe even give some bonuses for that. 2) should we keep the "distinctly different music genres" rule and give bonuses for that as it was done before. 3) any ideas?
bidonavip user on October 2nd, 2008 / post 27141
being not from the same country maybe should be an option but not a rule, no? also how can the judge will give a bonus to someone for using own tracks when he dont know who is he and these tracks are produced by him? have to agree that we should keep the "distinctly different music genres" rule and give bonuses for that as it was done before, yes. and finaly, all the sets have to come with complete tracklist at the very begining, not like last year some ppl posted here and there now and than. by far its like that for me. comment ppl, dont leave everything for slash again

the international thingy should be removed imo.if not itll be again bulgaria or egypt who will win
bidonavip user on October 2nd, 2008 / post 27143
^think not this time bud. noone can say x.mp3 is bg or egypt :-P
enenlightning *deepsoulfunk* on October 2nd, 2008 / post 27147
I thought that is only for judges. If so, there is no reason to make 'uninternational' I guess...
bidonavip user on October 2nd, 2008 / post 27148
yeah, a bit complicated now. if the regular user can get the actual mix with tags and title etc how would we make the judges get another ones without all the info? i know at least 5 ppl personal and some more virtual and if im a judge i can easy get the original ones [or download them from the tracker] :-)
slash ProDanceCulture on October 3rd, 2008 / post 27150
no-no. i thought i did mention it... there will be NO tracker torrents until there are the results. (hope this answer's bidona's question and clears the confusion).. it's ok, i guess, community can wait. here's what i'm thinking... users will take part in this bedlam as much as judges, but after judges. like it's done on america's biggest shows: american idol, america's got talent, dancing with the starts, etc. not that i'm a fan or viewer of any of these, but at least i'm aware how it works there... first every contestant is judged by several official judges, and then all the viewers are welcome to vote for their favorites in the next 24hrs or week or whatever by calling, messaging, emailing etc. some shows do not really allow viewers to do the final judgment, other shows might have judges kinda "unofficially" - just to say a few words after the contestants finish their performances... well, with all this, here's what i think more, and more detailed...
  • first official judges are doing their blind work, say, january 15 to 30th (dates just from top of my head).
  • then judgment results are published as "official", and community takes it from there - downloading torrents and voting, which gives us "unofficial results" (difference with idc08 will be that last year unofficial results meant "official without bonuses/deductions")... this voting can go for a month or something...

    now more about "unclear" things...
  • i think bonuses for usage of dj's own tracks and remixes should somehow be implemented, which will definitely have djs thinking: either go with some famous/cool/etc track and maybe get more votes, or to go with your own track, and get your team 0.1% bonus.. this could be limited to the max of 0.5% ie 6 own tracks will still give dj 0.5%, which gives a team a bonus of 1.5% if each dj uses 5 own tracks.. how about judges? they don't even need to know... they won't see tracklists until the torrents get released. i can and will see who did what from their tracklists and will add bonuses, if required, to the final scores of the teams. see, thi must be done "from above", because judge may or may not add bonus for djs' own productions, depends on the judge, and noone can fight it, but if it's done by the organizers - then noone can argue, pretty much someone will, but it's a different story.. and again, how about deception, if someone says to use their own tracks and then it comes out it was a lie? maybe only use officially released products, or provide download links for products or pages where they could be purchased?
  • and yes, bidona was right, all tracklists would have to be submitted before the competition starts. and how about ID tracks? maybe we could set a rule of having max of 2 ID tracks per team?
  • internationalism of the teams will be an option, not a must, not a rule. see, it doesn't really matter for judges, and they won't know djs, and mp3s will be shuffled, so 1.mp3, 2.mp3 and 3.mp3 will be from 3 different teams, to assure unbiased judgments even better. i guess, if a team keeps it 'same country', we could also give a bonus of 0.1% or something... or maybe 0.1% for each different country, which is the opposite, up to 0.3% bonus for a fully international team.. i dunno really which way is better to promote here... but it is much more interesting and exciting for users and downloaders and community in general to see countries compete, not the teams, adds fire and spice to the competition... what do you think, guys?

ok, enough for now, big messages scare people... thanks for joining in, guys!! really, thanks.

ps.. just had an idea.. it's from demo-scene parties, if someone knows, but anyways.. what they do is: gather up in a huge stadium or something (the bigger parties, here 'party' means gathering of people, not a vodka drinking time), set their tables, computers and stuff, of course most of the demos/music/pics/intros/gfx etc is brought from home, BUT... the really interesting thing is they have some "real-time" competition, that go while party is going on (maybe 2-3 days sometimes), and at the end all their work goes for voting. like coders need to make some special effect, musicians get some special samples and have to compose some 2-3 minute track from those samples, gfx artists have to draw some pic on given theme.. if someone wants to know/see/hear what i'm talking about here, they can go to https://www.scene.org and check out archives.. so.. we could have something like that too. say, we have 10 teams, each team along with their mixes has to submit ONE TRACK, of course best would be to submit their own product/remix, but not important, could submit some chillout track, or tribal, or trance track, famous or not, but with name/author/remixer provided as well. and then while judges have their 2 weeks for judgment, teams will have 2 weeks to make a 30 (45, 60?) minute mix, using all or some of these tracks all the teams have submitted. so basically them teams can end up mixing 10 tracks each coming from different genre, maybe even some pop track remixed, whatever moves them... and yeah, when results are posted, we'll also have 10 mixes that are made of pretty much same tracks, but different mixing/transitions/moves/samples/etc... and yeah, we put torrents up, each including this fresh mix, and then this could be as a completely different competition, but still in the frame of IDC, and community votes on these mixes separately from voting for teams themselves. but this very addition could ensure that djs do participate big and take time to do something special (even if they simply record their IDC mixes from their live club performances), just for IDC and for tribalmixes. how does this sound? i think, it's a good chance to 'exchange' some of your own tracks with people from other countries, even continents, who might really like some track and start using it in clubs and their mixes and stuff, yeah, some dollar-two will not be earned by this, but some fame/respect/attention could be received. i think, this could be interesting for djs, and it must be interesting for the community, cause we'd get to really see which team can really operate the and work with the unknown tracks and remixes and such... i wanted to put this as ps in my previous post, but decided to put it separately... hehe... too long again... maybe we should get more idc participants to see what they think here? thanks for your time and for reading this.

aye, this 'scene' thingy sounds sweeeet :-D

    Wow that is some info!

"all tracklists would have to be submitted before the competition starts. and how about ID tracks?
Nice idea, last year was a little hard to follow, with what seemed liked track lists popping up all over the place.

I am with Bidona the "Scene" thingy is a great idea. It will be a great feat to bring ten or so tracks together from IDC 2009 and make a set of it. There will have to be some good mixing with the music in mind that was produced earlier this year. What is a suitable reward?
