TIESTO, MATT DAREY, ROBBIE RIVERA, BENNY BENASSI, CARL COX, ARMIN VAN BUUREN
ON XM RADIO
:-)
As you might know Tiesto, Matt Darey, Robbie Rivera, Benny Benassi, and Carl Cox are joined together in the GLOBAL DOMINATION Show on XM81.
There are many other great DJs on XM radio: Armin Van Buuren – ASOT on XM82, John Digweed – Transitions on XM80 to mention a few.

What is interesting with this?
-The quality of the radio is better than of any FM radio.
-I am capable of correcting the spectrum of the music making the sound better than that of the radio broadcasted music.
-I have seen interest in downloading Armin’s ASOT 362 - SBD an mp3 @320kbs. Not going in to details I would like to mention that this 320 kbps mp3 is generated using the original 192 kbps mp3 having played it through a SBD (sound system) – Digital to Analog Converter. It reconstructs some how the music spectrum, from band limited at 18 kHz source signal, so the encoding to mp3 @320 kbps makes some sense. My records have already the full music spectrum of 22 kHz and of course I can preserve it.

I have started recording the Global Domination Radio Show since Benny Benassi joined it. So, I have all but one Benny Benassi’s shows. (The one I have missed was because I have started recording on almost full disk and … I had had only Tiesto’s show recorded.) Anyway, I like Benny Benassi, Robbie Rivera and of course Tiesto, Matt Darey and I decided to upload the shows I have recorded.

Now I am thinking of adding to the Global Domination Mega Pack I have started to upload the Armin’s ASOT. The ASOT show is on XM82 – The System every Saturday night 24:00 during the time when Benny’s show is on XM81. But I have the possibility to record its encore next Thursday, so I can upload it a week later after it was on DI.FM. (The same with Carl Cox’s Global Show. It is a week later on XM81.)

I am going to encode the music in MPED-4 (m4a) format VBR mode of compression @ around 320 kbps.

There are many reasons for me to choose m4a format for the files.
1. The music I record is in PCM format from XM radio broadcast
2. I do not like the bit saving encoders especially those that cut the spectrum width like LAME does. On another hand I do not want to use fixed bit rate when encoding the music. Instead I prefer to let encoder, which means the designers’, algorithm to choose the proper bit rate, requiring only the quality level.
3. When using LAME 3.98 my requirement for the VBR mode is the maximum quality which means encoder parameters:
-q0 –V0,
-k (no low pass filter at all), or --lowpass 22 (low pass cut of frequency of 22 kHz).
It turned out these low pass filter parameters do not work, LAME 3.98 accepts --lowpass 20 but actually applies  --lowpass 19 with -V0 (19 kHz  cut of frequency) reserving --lowpass 20 only with 320 kbps encoding (–b320).
With a spectrum width of 19 kHz and join stereo mode (-mj) LAME 3.98 generates files at around 220 kbps and at around 270 kbps in a simple stereo mode (-ms) from my PCM files.
4. On another hand I want to preserve the whole spectrum band width (20 Hz – 22 kHz) which is possible for me using the m4a format only. NerroAACenc, a compliant with the modern MPEG-4 standard for audio coding, encoder  generates files at around 320 kbps from my PCM files at 85% of quality parameter (parameter –q 0.85).
5. The information in these m4a files is more than in an mp3 file at any bit rate. Ttranscoding those to mp3 are almost as encoding from an original lossless sound.
