Mldonkey client with tribalmixes

Hi folks,

just want to know if there are any problems using Mldonkey as BT client and tribalmixes. I have installed a cheap NAS system @ home (conceptronic CH3SNAS + 2x 750 GB) which fits perfectly for using it with tribalmixes.  Main advantages compared to my desktop is a silent running and a very low consumption of electricity.
Though the NAS seems to work fine with Mldonkey, many user tell that they are banned from tracker because Mldonkey is not liked as a good BT client. Do you have any information regarding this topic ? I'm considering to install Mldonkey on an USB stick. This works fine with my NAS too and the HDs could be in spindown to save even more electricty and noise  ;-) But if Mldonkey is not liked here, I can save the time for setting up my NAS ...

Thanks in advance. Cheers, Bluemax

not 100% sure but on this page https://www.tribalmixes.com/links.php Mldonkey is not on the list of the recomendations. how about utorrent?

the truth is, both MLDonkey and i think there's another donkey-mule torrent leeching mod, they both have had a very nasty 'hole' - they would keep reporting torrent as freshly-complete many times after it was originally completed,  thus screwing with the counts and stats..i don't remember exactly right now, but i think there was another little bug in there as well.

see, as the time passed, and awards were introduced, now the process won't accept any more of those fake 'complete reports', because now on completion an award is given, and that info is saved, so next time you 'complete it again' - no award will go, and counts won't be changed, or at least i think so, but i can look more into that, if and only if, you cannot live without this donkey stuff...

many times i've said... why not use special software for each protocol? why do you think, my friends, utorrent's creators do not put donkey-net support into utorrent, along with the first level stuff like shareaza, kazaa, dc+ and others? because utorrent by itself is a VERY good program, it simply doesn't need anything extra, even more, anything not to do with torrents will look ugly in utorrent. and believe me, people behind utorrent could do the best donkey client ever, if they wanted to... but they do understand they do not need it. noone needs it...

so why do you need it? =)

... because there is no utorrent for linux. I have to use packages that are being compiled for my NAS system. Mldonkey is there most used. That's the problem. So, if Mldonkey is not liked here, I have to switch back to PC + utorrent as before.

if you want to and have some spare time some day, maybe pm me and we could arrange time together online and i'd take off the ban from donkey clients and you'd try to do something with them, and we'd see how it works and if it still does bad things, and if not - we could unban it permanently.

Thanks for your offer. I discovered that mldonkey works fine with my linux based NAS but getting the access rights fitted properly of downloaded torrents is a good piece of work. Because mldonkey runs under "root" user you can't delete, write ect. any directories or files when you are not "root". This is too much work getting things sorted out with a command line console only (for me it is) ... instead of using just windows explorer. So I switched back to utorrent + PC + tribalmixes.

Maybe sometime utorrent is going for linux

well, first of all, shouldn't have given up so fast, there's a wonderful software kinda thing, called TorrentFlux, this is how superseed2 is working, and superseed used to work same way.. it's really simple, just need to set up (maybe even local) website (which is probably already set up - apache and such), and then easy as 1-2-3 to add torrents or stop them, or to do other things.. although now i'm thinking if you don't use some good soft for browsing, cause it's all done through browsing, it's still gonna be pain in the butt.. on the other hand, you could set it all up on the linux machine, and connect to it from windows machine, and that way would be really easy, and no root rights are there, afaik, but Viktor1983 could tell you more, cause he's using it pretty often, and i haven't seen it in a year or two... and why i'm talking about it? cause it's based on BitTornado+python, and yeah, BitTornado is another client for linux, i can't believe it i've forgotten about it - pretty easy to use even from command line. so basically there were still ways of finding ways... =) but yeah, when it comes to utorrent, i think too it should be made for linux some time soon, cause it's all written on c/c++, so it shouldn't be hard to transfer it to the platform which c/c++ were made for - *nix... and yeah, of course nicely looking interface part will have to be let go of. but who know, maybe it would only benefit utorrent... =)

Thanks again, slash. I will have a deep look on other torrent clients torrent on my NAS. Using my linux based NAS as a bittorrent client is pretty cool cause it is silent and can run 24/7 very cheap. So I think I give it second try sometime.

To make this thread an end:

I killed mldonkey and switched to better Transmission client. This client is more comfortible with web frontend 'clutch' compared to mldonkey. But it is again far away from utorrent.
I am using my NAS now with linux on a 16 GB USB stick. Bittorrenting is pretty cool now because the HDs are in sleep mode and the NAS is very silent und does not use many electricity. Though it is a cool thing it only makes sense for big torrents because operation is not smooth as utorrent and because of limitation to only downloads. I  will give it a try for some weeks ...
