Im wireless right now. Should I be worried about security? And when i have my own isp and use a router i enable the wep key and mac filtering. Is that keeping me safe. I saw a vid on youtube it said that hackers can get in your home network and visually see what you are doing and record your keystrokes and everything. How can you be so safe and secure?

Do you have the security enabled on your router? You should be using WEP security keys. This guards against people using your connection/having access to your machine. You match your wireless WEP keys on the pc/laptop wireless card s/w to the WEP keys set on the router.

Also need to make sure you change the p/w for logging onto the wireless router

Hope this helps. :)

my friend, wep is totally unsecure, use wpa2,its a secured encrypted connection, and also using acl in ur router to allow pc by mac address is recommended

All responses are appreciated. And what about surfing on a hotspot. or using "someone elses internet". What is their to worry about there?

yeah, Commissar is right... use WPA2, enable mac filtering (doesn't protect too much), and set static ip addresses, which get assigned by mac addresses (or disable dhcp)... decreasing the transmit power helps a lot, and don't forget to disable SSID as well (and set your notebook to connect even when it can't see the SSID of your network)

imho that's all you can do :)
