Ramadan

   Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. The Month of Ramadan is also when it is believed the Holy Quran "was sent down from heaven, a guidance unto men, a declaration of direction, and a means of Salvation"
   It is during this month that Muslims fast. It is called the Fast of Ramadan and lasts the entire month. Ramadan is a time when Muslims concentrate on their faith and spend less time on the concerns of their everyday lives. It is a time of worship and contemplation.
   During the Fast of Ramadan strict restraints are placed on the daily lives of Muslims. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relations are also forbidden during fasting. At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a meal called the iftar. In the evening following the iftar it is customary for Muslims to go out visiting family and friends. The fast is resumed the next morning.

may i add the fact that during the meal thats called the iftar muslims unlike christians and jews invite ppl of other faith to join in where christians and jews do not invite other faiths into their celebrations.i am christian and this is all new to me i just watched a vid today and will put the link on here for others to view.

however this topic is only about Ramadan .. but I'll explain to you briefly .. first you have to NOT believe any kind of media in US or Europe because they all lie and say alot of false truth about Islam ... second, "Jihad" is when the Muslim sacrifice anything, starting from money, stuff, time ending to parts of his body to his soul itself for God .. this usually happens in War where Muslims defend their land or faith .. but .. what you see in your media that they say about the islamic racists who blow themselves wherever killing civilians and innocent people "mojahdeen" while this is definately wrong they call them that because these racists think they are while they are not and other Muslims believe they will be in Hell ... why? because any one who just read a little bit about Islam will know that it's strongly forbidden for any reason  to beat, hurt or kill any females, children, old people or innocent civilians even in war, Muslims are not allowed to kill except the militarian people only .. that is a clear state in the Holy Quran ... hope now you got a simple idea

very true and very good explanation commi..its a real pitty about the rumors about islam that r always coming out in europe and the states,,specially the states..some people dont know anything at all about islam,,but just think its a violent religion or whatever just from hearing that,,from people that also have no idea about islam....thnx clumbsy for the good explanation of what ramadan is too...im sure alot of people r wondering what it is..now they know ....peace out everybody...and happy ramadan to all my muslim bros and sises

i know for sure that if i came to Egypt i'd feel safe with you all , anyone with a brain cell should know that it's the exteremist who give islam a bad name , the bombs that went off in April was very saddening :(  ,  i was very concerned about it and had a chat with commi about it . i just hope one day everyone can live in peace .

look at it this way ...ppl are divided into good and bad not muslims and christaians or jews or whatever ...there are good and bad ppl in every relgion so u cant judge a whole relgion just because of some crazy extermists u saw on the news ..thats all i have to say

You don't have to be a Muslim to believe in Islam and that it is a peacful religion and Mohammed was a good man .. it's pretty enough that this great man influenced the human race so obviously and the proof is the 1.6 billion muslim existing now after more than 14 centuries from his death .. very simple examples:

1) Thomas Carlyle : a great philospher and historican mentioned Mohammed in his book "Heroes" as the first Hero in the human race history

2) Leo Tolstoy : another great russian man and one of the greatest writers in history, he said that Mohammed was the most man who served the human race by his message and faith

these two men were not muslims but they are respectable and honest men on a good knowledge of the true history of Islam and the Prophet
