'let me show you 1-2-step'... i don't really know what 'new-music-style' you're talking about, but... yeah, recently sounds are changing. lots of djs are inviting minimal tech step sounds into their mixes. lots of them were on digweed's show in april-june like Steve Porter, Pole Folder, Weird Continential Types, Drama Society, Stel and some others. i personally think it is harder to play, since every sound must sound distinct and separate, to make the whole thing sound best. but think about it in time perspective: music is constantly changing, new djs are trying to pick it up, working hard and stuff, composers and musicmakers are also leading in this field, minimal music finds its lovers like any kind of music would do any time in History. so i personally decided to let it flow and myself flow with it. closing up your mind from new stuff accessing your thoughts isn't the right way. just think of all classic lovers when rock'n'roll came up public? what did they think? in ussr this music, as you can probably remember, was outlaw...
ps. tell me one thing, did you ever take part in fidonet? :)

Hmm yeah I agree on not closing down my mind. I try to be as openminded about everything as possible ( I think) and there are definately some tracks from this "new style" that I like. Also since my music making ability goes as far as playing guitar and Fruity Loops my perception of music is totally different from someone who knows what to do with the turn tables. For me its strictly auditory maybe for DJ's its more technical. Its like my brother talking to me about computer graphics. I'd say "WOW! This game looks awesome!" He'd go "what?! no bump mapping, no dynamic shading, no (I dont even know some of the terms he uses)" So you can see how his definition of "good" comes from complexity more then anything else. I guess "Complex" is good for techies but is really hard to understand for the regular folk.
P.S
I was never a part of Fido but my brother was. My involvment wen't only as far as VGA Planets:)

First time I heard it was early 2005 when I went to see John Aquaviva.
Let me tell ya. I haven't heard music like that since 1987 when I used to play Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
After much disapointment at wasted time my friends and I proceeded home while making smart ass coments about the horrid music that we have just heard. Two weeks later I went to a resident night at the same club and what do you know, more ZX Spectrum music! And from then on it kept goin. Dave Seaman, Nic Fanciulli, Deep Dish, Max Graham all playing that same music! I was shocked! (Though Deep Dish and Max Graham mixed it up a bit so that half hour that they did stick to their original style was worth the cover charge... So am I growing out of this? How did house/Trance change so much so quickly? What happened to the good old days of Safe From Harm and Deep Dark Jungle? Im just not getting it now. Does 2-step it not sound like a bunch of sound effects from 80s moveis and vide games mixed together with some drums? I mean listen to Satoshi Tomiie - Live @ NRJ - 25-6-2005.mp3 or Satoshi Tomiie - Live @ Guendalina - 26-06-2005.mp3... Thoughts? Flame?
