I was just wondering what everyones favorite os is. I use xp. But would love to learn linux. Its suppose to be more stable. Ive tried suse10.0 and knoppix 5.0 and a few others. Other than that i'd love to have the new mac laptop with the intel chip. So everyone please i'd love to hear your input. maybe it'll help me switch over to something else.

well
  • Knoppix is an Educational copy .. recommended for all who wanna learn linux
  • XP or windows generally CAN'T be considered as an operating system because it's not .. it sucks
  • if you gonna buy a new mac laptop with intel chip, I recommend macbookpro 17" and if you can't afford it's money, then the 2.16GHZ 15" model, then the 2.0GHZ 15" model .. don't buy the new macbook unless you don't care about (1-storage - 2-graphics card memory)
  • for myself, I have experience in most of the operating systems all around, I believe that the best operating system for desktops/laptops is Mac OS X or Linux (SUSE) and for workstations/servers it's Solaris or FreeBSD ... windows is totally unqualified to even run a cell phone
  • with your new macbookpro, you will be able to install windows (XPSP2 at least) using the bootcamp software and this will lead you to run both Mac & XP but you must be aware that in windows you will only be able to deal with the windows partition and the Mac one will be totally invisible and from Mac you will see the windows partition but you will not be able to drag & drop to/from it unless you formatted it using FAT32 format NOT NTFS ... also you must note that Apple doesn't and will never approve windows or give any support regarding it :)

Windows is a very powerful system, and we cant just deny that, but Linux is even more powerful, very stable, and the best part is...its FREE

I am a windows and a linux power user, used linux since Slackware 1.0 in 1995, the best distro for linux now is Ubuntu, and u will be suprised as how linux turned out to be when u install Ubuntu, Suse is good, but not "great" now for a more power user, Slackware will be the best bet, but if u wanna learn linux first, start with ubuntu or fedora
