Make uTorrent 2.2.1 work it's BEST for you (tweak the settings), page 1

I know many of us use uTorrent 2.2.1 cause it was the last version before they started making drastic changes that eventually brought us to the overly bloated and sometimes outright erroneous version 3+... and so while searching for Bencode Editor earlier to mess with my utorrent's torrent db, i have also come across this reddit post by reddit user hugeaurorafan. Since usually nobody wants to follow external links, i will copy the most important stuff here, but please, feel free to peruse the whole instructions... this would actually be a great help to all the new users who are super excited to find TM and about to embark on a 1000-torrents download.. Funny, after applying most of the settings i yet didn't have enabled, I even scrambled 20% more download speed while uploading at about 75% of my max.

For the last 2, use a SSD, make sure Pre-allocate all files is unchecked (on the Preferences->General tab). If you have only one disk and it's spinning, set them false and have Pre-allocate checked.

Disk cache:

Check Override automatic cache size and enter 1024.

Uncheck Reduce memory usage.

Check Enable caching of writes.

Uncheck Write Out untouched.

Check Write out finished pieces immediately.

Check Enable caching of disk read.

Check Turn off read caching if upload slow.

Check Remove old blocks.

Check Increase automatic when thrashing.

Check Disable Windows caching of disk writes.

Check Disable Windows caching of disk reads.

Sequential transfers:

Have no torrents selected. Press and hold Shift and F2 simultaneously. Keep holding them down and click the Settings button. //FROM SLASH: IMAGINE, THIS WAS NEWS FOR ME, HIDDEN SETTINGS]//

These now appear in the Advanced settings list. Change to:

bt.sequential_download true

bt_sequential_files true

Also change the following if you want to view a video while it downloads:

bt.prio_first_last_piece true

just wanted to mention, these settings ARE GOLD .. but for mass downloader.. if you seeding lots of stuff, more tweaks are needed.. like for example with the change of my internet from 1gbps to mobile 5g (barely 100mbps down, although promised 250mbps or so) at a different ISP, i ended up having GNAT where i cannot open ports unless VPN is there.. for months i've been plagued with unconnectable, plus my utorrent would have 100s of tribalmixes torrents stuck updating.. finally i've resolved that by using a VPN solely with utorrent (via a tunnel created with WireSockUI) and by limiting active torrents to 20 in utorrent, which allowed me to finally seed all my current 4k TM torrents, and possibly will help me seed more of the older stuff in the future.. i think as a special treat for 20 years anniversary next year, i will try put out all of my old torrents to seed.. roughly 25-35k of them..

to clarify, the idea is to start utorrent with small amount of active torrents so as not to overwhelm the tracker or your network with 100s of start-seed requests to tracker announce, but thanks to settings to start seeding more queued torrents if no activity happens on currently active ones, - utorrent slowly starts up all 4000 torrents..

mate if you look carefully. your biggest issue is users with their bandwidth restricted. No point being connectable unless you are willing to share via torrent

you know the coolest part of this setup? it explains how to make your utorrent download video files watchable from the start, unfinished. if you unselect any torrents, press and hold SHIFT+F2, then click Options->Preferences, then your Advanced tab now has very different options, which include these 2 golden ones (+1 available in normal Advanced options and in here too):

bt.sequential_download
bt_sequential_files
bt.prio_first_last_piece

by setting all 3 to TRUE - your client will be downloading anything by going segments incrementally, which means 1,2,3 etc which makes audio and most video downloads usable unfinished. in video some TVs or software won't be able to navigate (FF,RW) thru the file, but otherwise you can watch it no problems.. this way no need to wait till the file is fully downloaded. it is a game changer for sure. i know a lot of users here employ (old) uTorrent, - this is the way!
