MMMMM Interesting.... I have to agree with you there Andy, although the James Lavelle release was superb! GU does tend to be very hit and miss especially the latter releases

'twas ever thus........
Look at the Cream CD's..... quality for years, but 100% shite since the early/mid 00's.
Godskitchen - all their early stuff (first album aside) was good/great, while recently 100% shite in the last few releases.
Gatecrasher, probably not had a decent one out since Kuala Lumpur.
All relying on brand loyalty - but never reaching the quality of their early days on which that reputation was built.
ppppppppffffffffffffffffftttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure there are plenty more examples out there.

Global Underground has been taking advantage of us for years and some of you have realized it and some of you have not. The famous GU040 in which I believe we were lied to. I believe you should think about it this way, after Freeland 032, which was a real journey from the GU usual. They go to Layo and Bushwacka for really a minimal mix. The ideas were few and between, so they decided to go to mr.electrohouse, felix da housecat. So they returned to the safe bet of Nick Warren for 035 but then you watched what happened. They decided to return to Darren Emerson, who has seen better days as far as I am concerned. It was not the best put together CD but they decided to go with James Lavelle, who I believe did not sell well. Remember they are owned by MOS, well the remaining fat lad runs MOS America since 2007. His energies were elsewhere. So they return to the safe legendary carl cox for 038 then decided to go back to classic years and pulled out dave seaman for 039.
What do we get here? They were pulling out old names, just in an attempt to sell units for the people who like myself own all the series. Its shameful and honestly its been nearly two years since the last city compilation. They keep people hanging on their facebook page, saying its coming or that GU040 failed. I believe that they really have shelved the brand or may release a compilation to keep matters interesting but I believe GU is dead. Some will argue its been dead since 032, I agree with that point.
Look at the v. series, with a few deejays to keep matters interesting but not returning to the city brand. You look at the nubreed series, where they tried to make it interesting with a terrible 007 and a decent 008 then nothing.
GU keeps lying to us because they know we will bite because we have brand loyalty. Its a sad way to see the thing end. What now? 040 finally comes out with some decently big name then what? Another year of nothing. Its a sad way for the brand to go after all the classic compilations from years ago, the ones that we still keep playing on the ipods or the car even after all these years. We know all the transitions by heart.
I find it stupid that GU is playing with us but then it died a long time ago....
