well, this is the problem... as it is, people come to the site to find their favorite music, so very very few really check out the forums, and even less than that will stumble upon this thread.. a very, very, very good and useful idea would be the one concerning this issue: how to make people check out the forums more frequent. it's understandable, of course, noone wants to read stuff if they don't need to or not in the mood, or whatever.... partial stats here: while the army of peer (or rather torrent clients) produced about 160 million hits in april, here's what we have:
03 /shoutbox.php 5,649,674
06 /details.php 242,063
10 /forums.php 43,686
shoutbox is the favorite time spending on tm. how could i think of removing it some time ago... details are displayed less than torrents browse pages because browse is enough to get the .torrent files, but still people are interested in what's inside, which is warming up my soul. idon't need to worry you with all the exact numbers, but forums are browsed 6 times less than torrent details, and 100 times less than shoutbox.. so that could be refreshing...
returning to IB1's request, i can say the following - the work is in progress on such a thing, it's called 'extended rss feeds', will cost you points, as MB noticed, but then they'll be fully and completely customizable as much as the new search engine on the site. you will simply be able to do any search in torrents page, and then sign up to an RSS thread for that search. and how you tweak that search is your own decision. although now it's not available, i will do this "search only in details" option, so that to look through track-lists only, in case you wanted sets with some dj/producer's tracks (that's possible only when people put tracklists in torrents' details, btw), but didn't want the sets played by that dj (hence, needed to avoid the "search in torrent names" part of the whole shebang). i hope i've explained this clear enough. and yeah, this is a half-ass way of fulfilling your request/idea, but it will provide you with a wider range of notification tools, because there're lots of RSS clients, even torrent clients have RSS readers, using which will save you a step of "getting email alert and going to site through the provided link to click the torrent file to download it" and make it a straight forward "get file if it satisfies the criteria, thus auto-starting the download", and having utorrent-remote coming out with next big release of utorrent (ver.3.0), for example, will even allow you to screen the rss feed on your mobile device before eben allowing your home computer's client to start the download.. well, lots of technicalities, but in general it's this: just let the rss feeds come in at some point. i was finishing them in august, when starcraft 2 came out... ghm.. sorry, friends... =)
