hum, as far as dj equipment you should have at least 3 pioneer cdj-1000 mk3, 2 technics sl-1200/1210, 1 rane xp-2016 + 1 rane xp2016a mixer, pioneer efx1000.
As for the PA system, you really should consider having a sound engineer decide what's best for the venue cause the type of PA greatly depends on the conditions, room size, type of walls/ceiling/floor, number of people who will atend the party, etc :)
All the best,
DK
PS: check out this site for prices: www.musicstore.de, i usually buy my stuff from there, they have good prices, good delivery times and never had a single problem.

WoW!!! Awesome advice from Drumkode...Very specific too. If your in North America, you can go to pro sound stage and lighting to get equipment. www.pssl.com they have good prices and everything you need. Even notebooks too. Maybe they'll ship anywhere, im not sure.

Most "big name" (read: expensive) DJs specify equipment requirements in their contract rider. House DJs often prefer rotary mixers, like the 2016, but you'll find many trance, breakbeat, etc, DJs are used to the classic DJM600 and like to mix on that. A call to their management agency will resolve this quickly, as they should be able to advise you of their artist's gear preferences, and how picky they may be. What's in the contract goes, so it's best to get in touch with their agency ahead of time rather than guess.
Unless you want to invest alot of money, contract the PA rig. A good PA is worth many, many thousands of dollars and requires serious setup effort and transport costs. You've got other worries, mainly logistics and dealing with the venue and security, so you will need a sound tech of some sort, either contract or a trusted friend who knows his game. Certainly best left to a pro. You'd be surprised how affordable it is to rent a sound rig for a night, especially if you don't need something amazingly huge. It also saves a lot of work on your part. Same goes for lighting and visuals.

what hardware, what equipment would a famous dj need to throw a magnificent, unforgettable, headbanging party? from decks and their types to speakers and laser systems... would really be great if experienced party organizers mentioned their opinion here.
and a follow-upper right here, ghm, how much would all this stuff cost. and if compared to the DJ-s premium? damn... can't even think about it... =)
