Please record in the highest possible quality from now on

Hi :) .

I feel that I need to open this thread, because I cannot understand, why so many recordings on TM.com are still made in low quality (i. e. 128kbps) . I don't know what kind of sound-systems you have at home, but the absolute minimum necessary quality if you listen to music is 192kbps VBR, imo. that's medium quality. 192kbps without VBR is still low quality. 256kps VBR is medium quality to high quality and the real high quality really only begins with MP3 320kps CBR and ends with FLAC.

If you think that I'm exgagurating, I'm not. I may have 25y experience of playing instruments and having had some serious musical education, but I'm already able to tell the difference in the quality of a 192kbps VBR and a 256kbps recording if I ABX (the recommended form of comparing) them using lowly Dr. Dre Beatz headphones. The better the sound-system gets, the more one is able to listen to all those small, tiny details of the music as they become crystal clear, all those small "clicks" in the high-heads, the "body" of the "base" or the aethmosphere of the mids.
The difference in file-size however is minimal. A file in 128kps that lasts 2h is about 110mb. If you at least choose the quality to be 192kps the file is going to be 155mb. Yes, that is 50% more filespace, but it's a 100% increase in the quality of the recording! If you record in 320kbps the file is going to be around 250mb.
If you look at the nowadays harddrives, they 4GB in size and cost 100$. 4GB is enough for 16k of DJ-Mixes à 2h in 320kbps and you could even mount 2 or more music than even exists on Tribalmixes!

Out of this reason I really beg you, that you think towards the future, you will get better sound systems, and that you preserve those precioius recordings right from the start and record them in 320kps and if space really is your big problem, record at least in 192-256kps VBR. Please think towards yourself and all the other users on the site, for me personal it's so bad, that I barely can listen anymore to 128kbps music since I once made the effort of ABXing between a 128kpbs recording and a 192kbps VBR recording for the James Holden Megapack.  

Praise to you if you record in FLAC quality   .

tribalmixes is known for true bitrate mixes delivery. if file is shared as 128kbps or less, it means, that is the highest bitrate recording was made from. many recordings are extracted from videos, where audio bitrate is first determined and then aac track gets converted to mp3 with same bitrate. if better bitrate is available at some point - it will be shared. like some soundcloud accounts do - first share without source download (thus only 128kbps version is available), to maximize plays, then open source download weeks later. you are incorrect, if you think that any of the uploaders intentionally record in and share lower bitrate mp3s...

Can only support this, don't make the file bigger if the source isn't of that quality.

BUT referring to m4a rips from videos: Isn't the audio quality of m4a in comparison to mp3 not better from what I have heard? So if I would find a m4a audio in 128 kbps I'd convert it to mp3 with at least 160 kbit/s.

i don;t see why flat bitrate of 128kbps as aac/m4a will be different from same mp3. container size is identical almost to the bit.

m4a is more powerful in compression afaik.

As slash said, sometimes the only option is to rip the audio in 128kbps without a better source available.  I prefer 320kbps, but you gotta take what you can get.  I can assure you that I would upload the higher pure bitrate audio whenever possible.
