Few places I've been to over the years......
Italy
Almost anywhere in Italy is great. Be it Tuscay or Rome. The scenery is exquisite, the food simply the best and the people are crazy. The wine is as good as any in Europe (bar France perhaps) and the football fans are all a few screws loose.
Spain
One of my favourite countries I've been to still. The Balearic islands I've done, not everyone cup of tea but certainly a love for me. Ibiza gets an unfair press, avoid San Antonio and you'll love it. Similar with the other Spanish isles, aviod the brit traps in Tenerife and it's a mini paradise. Great steaks too. Mainland Spain, Barcelona and Madrid are superb cities and the Spainish food was incredible I found. Did the Costa del Sol recently. If you know where to go (aviod the beaten track) you'll love it. Surfing is pretty good near Tarifa too. Drop in on Gibraltar if you're a Brit, a fun day out in the rock.
Turkey
Never forget my hols in Turkey. Again, everything was perfect, the food, drink, weather, scenery hospitality. Everything is cheap too.
Switzerland
Man, I wish I could live there. Heidi country is dreamy to say the least. The trains do not run on time, inspite of the propaganda. It is so beautiful whether or not you go in summer or winter, you will not want to leave. Cheese is awesome too.
France
The north is cold, but the south is the place to be Cote d'azur. Bit expensive I found but then that's only natural as I was in places like Cannes and Nice and the like. Best bit in the North has to be Paris. One of the greatest cities I've been to, so much to see and do. East coast, well anywhere is good, La Rochelle, Bordeaux etc etc. In the middle departments there are so many château's to see and so much rolling countryside you'll never regret it - or the quality of the wine and food. Cheap and top drawer.
Portugal
The south was a bit barren (but so hot) the north was my fave. Porto in particular. I found the food a little bizarre though. Some strange offal and other stuff was served up to me as I didn't understand the menus. That was the only downside to what otherwise is a great country. Beer was good too.

I am very lucky to have visited a few places, cities or countries which stand out for me are.....
Chile..... Beautiful place, untouched, serene and the warmest people the earth has to offer
Mexico.... Raw, undeveloped, but so much fun. For someone who knows so little spanish, this country was a whole lot of fun. Would give a testicle to go back, hang on i am going in a few months time...
Belgium.... so many gorgeous ladies and so much good beer, how can you go wrong? This would have to be the cleanest place i have ever been to!
Italy... Around the peninsula, from Venice, east towards Trieste. People are just so contempt with their way of life, warm, helpful and welcoming. I had a blast through here!
Amsterdam.... Possibly the biggest party in my life!
Places which are still on my list to visit, India, Turkey, Poland, Canada
Places which i won't visit again, France (Paris), Thailand (Bangkok)

Why Thailand? Liked it there... well, the beach vendors are annoying, but still nice there.
Even nicer: Bali. Especially the south. Nice beaches, nice countryside with mountains, and since there's hinduism the people are all cool and nice and unobtrusive.
Also interesting: Vietnam
Too much to see and to much to do to write it here... get a Lonely Planet for a good impression.
Favorite beach/hotel: Paradise Resort. North of Nha Trang, nearly no tourists, bay with a small island some kilometres out on the sea, and you get woken up by the morning sun directly into your face. Most beautiful place I've been yet. The hotel is run by an old french man, little bit weird, but really kind :)
