The show, which will take place on December 31 at Pier 94 in Manhattan, has been the subject of a heated conversation, hosted on facebook, between fans, Avicii’s management and at times Avicii himself. The scheduling of performances throughout the night has been a point of contention and a hot-button issue for many fans and party-goers. Most have voiced harsh sentiments regarding the possibility that Avicii won’t play the Manhattan New Year’s show until after the countdown and ball drop.
Avicii will be playing a second show that evening in Niagra Falls, one that he intended to play last year, but never got the chance as it was shut down by police before his scheduled set. Confusion over the actual set-times of each show has run rampant. Initially, Avicii released via facebook that he would first play the Niagra show, and then come to Manhattan to join the partiers at Pier 94. After hundreds of fuming fans made their disappointment clear, Avicii tweeted that he had accidently messed up the set-times and that he would be in the city for the ball drop.
Today’s release, announcing the availability of additional tickets, adds fuel to the already raging fire of miscommunication and growing disappointment. According to Getin PR, who has been promoting the Pier 94 show all along, Avicii will take the stage at 1:30AM in NYC, nearly an hour and a half into the year 2012.
The announcement does bear some good news though, officially releasing the schedule of artists for the evening, which will include Glenn Morrison at 9PM, CAZZETTE at 10:30PM, Arty at Midnight, Avicii at 1:30AM and Swanky Tunes at 4:30AM. It appears that Avicii’s elongated set is a way to make up for his absence at the peak of the evening.
Regardless of the impressive supporting cast, many Pier 94 ticket-holders will be less than pleased when they find out that Avicii will be gracing them with his presence so late into the evening. There is no doubt that Avicii will be able to handle both shows in the evening, and impress devotees at both venues. Of course, that is assuming that fans don’t jump ship after the latest jumble in set-times.
