How much electronic music do you have?

120 GB back then was a mountain. 120 GB these days is two or three files downloaded, how things evolve. Little did we know these forums are a treasure chest of fun from the past. Argh, memories back from the prehistoric times!

Nowadays we deal in TB!
Crazy really... even though bitrates are not increasing (dropping if anything thanks to Opus and AAC) the amount of sets that get posted/released by everyone and his dog has exploded. Especially since the lockdown days...

4 TB on an external USB HDD (with a 4TB backup!) +
615 GB unsorted on another external USB HDD (also backed up!).
Looking to get two 12 TB drives soon though as my 4 TB is chock full….
Comprised of mix compilations, live mixes, a limited number of music videos (Bunker Sessions FTW!), single releases for DJ-ing as well as mixtapes from the 90's.
I too am afraid that a lot of the stuff publicly available will disappear so prefer to download and keep my own archive….

You can never have enough storage.. mine is centrally on a NAS although it too has hit the ceiling capacity that I have available at the moment... last count theres about 4TB with another 800Gb floating around that needs to be added.

Top work guys and girls !
I’m glad to see everyone is backing up their data to.
It’s very easy to store the 4-5 mixes I keep on hand. Just back them up to usb drive

I have always been sceptical of relying on streaming alone. Some people have stopped collecting sets.
But a lot of stuff just disappears from Soundcloud/Mixcloud/YouTube/iPlayer/etc. with no prior warning.
Unless you archived a copy somewhere... good luck finding an active torrent for it.
The same can be said of films & TV series. Really not a good idea to rely on Netflix/Apple TV/Amazon Prime.

They actually never look like this. I once worked for a company who had their DR site merely separated by a railway line amongst many datacentre myths that you come across.

Whilst it seems that most sets are immortalised on Soundcloud/Mixcloud/YouTube/etc...
I noticed that at some point, stuff just gets taken down/deleted for whatever reason.
Even if it didn't infringe on someone's copyright.
So that classic set you used to love to stream a dozen times a year for a decade or more is suddenly unavailable.
Keep on hoarding people
