I've spent about a day trying to figure out how to become "connectable" -- and finally did it -- I just don't think things should be this obscure -- and with all due respect to the many informative posts in this thread -- it wasn't until I landed on this page at bittorrent support:

https://preview.tinyurl.com/ygwjkx

about "slow downloads" that I realized I had to adjust the properties of my router (192.168.0.1) to turn UPnP on.  Fortunately, getting things to work with BitTorrent in Windows XP is the simple case.  But it's not that simple, patience is still needed. I rebooted my computer, and it took bittorrent a full 20 minutes to complete checking my firewall status.  I thought BitTorrent was hung on the "checking firewall" status -- and was ready to send bittorrent a question about that when all of a sudden, I had "Online, ports open" status. It took tribalmixes about as long to consider all my seeds connectable.

Such a feeling of accomplishment

I hope from here on -- the "Connectable: NO" status will never again raise it's ugly head!

I understand everything about opening up ports and all that BUT -
I live in University housing and have NO administrative ability to tweak router properties.
And no one can connect to me.
Am I screwed? Is my ratio doomed to always be on the brink of banning me?

Hey, I'm not seeding! :-/ It's all correct... But there are no peers!
Also! When I restart my modem (and μTorrent is closed before that) it always says 'There is a tracker error'......
