A system that takes little thought can make people simple

I've begun to totally ignore the current voting system on tribalmixes . Votes seem to be cast more for 'Big names' or simply because a certain Dj is from some specific country rather than the quality of the music.Or even worse just randomly without any real thought at all .

As an example this Torrent 'd-phrag_-_Immersed_on_Frisky_Radio_(guest_Matan_Caspi)_-12-11-2010.mp3.torrent'

unfortunately the majority of the people who come here just hit and run, don't seed, don't comment or don't vote..

I agree to some point about the current voting system not being such an accurate model of representation for the sets quality. But any changes made to the voting system... In my opinion... will not change anything on the forum. People are always going to be lazy and make bogus votes based on the dj's name or sound quality (compression) instead of an honest actually thought out and listened to comment or vote on a set mix.

Yeah great point IB1 ,

how about a system where people can spend immortal points to place a recommendation on their favorite mixes.
Say it costs 10 points to place a recommendation on a mix. A gold star or something with the name of the user who recommended it will show up.
This way users can promote their favorite sets by committing their own points to it.
And it gives us more to spend our points on.

I recommending implementing it for a month as a trial run, to see how it goes.

Tying in immortal points and recommendations is a good idea to try out if slash or whoever could have the time to work on these.

We could even have a special 'featured weekly recommendation'  that could only be won on the lottery .This would give the winner the opportunity to recommend any torrent and to have that recommendation shown on a banner for a week on tribalmixes .This Recommendation banner  would also show the winners name .

I.E -  iseeyoursoul weekly recommendation

Certainly many people just download the music  and in my opinion that is fine .

There are also people who like to get a little more involved in the musics distribution, production, promotion etc .

So why not give theses people more opportunity to do so . If we use a system that highlights/rewards the efforts of the people then they are more likely  to put more effort in .

Just a a "brain storming" kinda idea . Take a look at WIKI pagers where users can edit the text them selves .

Now imagine a music web site that was easy to change by the users them selves . by utilising a 'plug-in' type of system where users could add add-ons .

Or even better the users could use a easy to learn program  in which they could design these web site add ons them selves .

As a model of what I'm thinking of take a look at a very popular music sequencer Ableton live .

Most sequencers on windows now make full use of the adaptable plug-in system called VST'S .This gives music producers the ability to use third party software instruments and effects in the host sequencers .

Ableton live now has a feature called "max for live" this gives a music producer the ability to design there own music effects without having to have any knowledge of software programming .

At the moment the internet is relatively fixed .Users can log into sites and make a few minor alterations .

what about having a internet and tribalmixes.com where users get to design the sites the way they would like it.Also using a system where the popular ideas 'plug ins that get used often' remain with a strong 'user score'  whilst the others just get over written .

Of course this is quite a radical idea in context to the more traditional websites that only really get changed by people who understand computer programming .

Make a system that is easy to use  yet has the tools for powerful user design .

A system that promotes the unique talents of a individual .

More dreams   maybe? Though it has been done with with music/art software so why not with web sites ?
