Little Big News (w/o front page exposure), page 1

here i will try to maintain the list of changes i do that don't end up in the news section on the main page... i will not only try to keep up and report all the new things here, i will also try to mention recent changes happened before this thread was started.

for example, newest development.. i will also try to accentuate these "news" with bold, italic or simply bigger-sized font, as to show the importance and all...

only torrents with 15 or less downloads will be removed from the site when their lifespan is over. until now all none ratio-free torrents were removed (after 180 days - the lifespan)

youtube videos are now auto-embedded in forum posts, coments, torrent descriptions, even personal messages. to have a video show up as a normal video - simply put the youtube link that looks something like this http:\\www.youtube.com\watch?v=eHCxz7HRziY

i replaced / with \ so that link would stay not-formatted.

a big SEO change has happened, well, two big changes.. first of all, files can be accessed on "per file" basis now, i.e. all torrents shared after aug 2011 now have these download links, so each file can have up to 2 links to download it, separately from torrent, many have noticed this feature already, it's in "torrents" sub-menu, when in "files" mode, link for torrents page is in sub-menu as well, they switch places.. yeah, we like to have fun around here.

https://www.tribalmixes.com/djmixes/

and second big change, which happened first to files, not to torrents - URL addresses of all torrents and files are now "user-friendly". it's not a big deal for users of the site, cause all urls here say what they're for in anchor text, but it is a good thing for those coming here through search engines, also for people who see link anywhere without the anchor text, just plain link. url's are now explaining what they are about, instead of providing dry id=nnnnnn.

https://www.tribalmixes.com/torrent/67077-John-Digweed-Dosem-Transitions-Proton-Radio-11-11-2011
https://www.tribalmixes.com/djmix/141012-01-annie_mac_-_bbc_radio1_guest_emeli_sande-sat-11-18-2011-talion.html

first is torrent page, second - file page. old style urls will still work, so it's ok to have them listed somewhere:

https://www.tribalmixes.com/details.php?id=67077
https://www.tribalmixes.com/djmix.php?id=141012

as i've said, urls are not something much of a change for users here, but for outside uses and search engines - they are a good step..

as much as it hurts me to accept this, but i've had to do it: cover the website with commercial adds. the truth is, donations aren't coming in as much as it's needed to support our ongoing expansion and development, and this seems as a good way as any other to support the website.

as it says on every add, donating $10 will remove ALL commercial adds throughout the website.

thanks for your cooperation. =(

ok, maybe i continue this thread... from the latest developments:
  • several new BB-Tags added, including {float=left/right}, {resize}, {tracklist}, also area adjacent to any forum post or comment editing box equipped with easy click-and-tag buttons for quick access to all bb-tags.
  • most important tags were furnished with shortcuts. combinations of CTRL+LETTER or CTRL+NUMBER, and can be seen either in bb-tags page or by hovering buttons with mouse - will show as tool-tips..
  • site now has quick-forum-access submenu of most active forum topics right in top main page menu... logged in users clicking on any links will be send to the latest post they've read in those threads.
  • forums are being remodeled, the look and design, with more quick-access features added right on forums pages. also for comfort unread/unseen posts on any thread will show up with darker headers than the seen posts.

more has been or will be done, of course, can't remember all things.. but will keep posting them..

not the best place to talk SEO - but it's cool.. =) results, i've got results right away on many avenues. and since then they've been progressively increasing. it's nice to look at it now and see results from the long scope of time (August 2011 till May 2012 - 9 months, so i know about SEO since 9 months ago), and yes, see significant results. it's hard to do everything properly according to SEO, since i am basically alone at this, and i gotta do sideprojects, like recent implementation of caching SQL results and reusing them, a site-wide project that i've been at for a month already.. but results are obvious there - load time of index page or torrent browse page has speeded up 10 fold.. with SEO you plant seeds, and you wait and see them grow maybe in 3-4 months. and results are visible too. for example, my stats software site-wide reporting following progress:

Month | Unique visitors | Number of visits | Pages | Hits | Bandwidth
    -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- | -------- |
    Jan 2012 | 646,187 | 2,041,545 | 99,371,278 | 106,120,772 | 255.02 GB
    Feb 2012 | 780,319 | 2,375,771 | 99,368,048 | 106,568,983 | 264.70 GB
    Mar 2012 | 964,341 | 3,078,886 | 112,225,671 | 121,394,336 | 354.82 GB
    Apr 2012 | 1,058,478 | 3,398,012 | 112,249,384 | 120,422,913 | 315.67 GB

pages and hits don't increase as much as visitors and visits because majority of hits and pages (page-views) are counted from torrent-client-to-tracker communications, which are alot more of them than simple page browsing..

now that i have my SEO in order, or at least i think i do for the most part, my main task is to generate the buzz. to let google see that different awesome things are happening here, and smart discussions, and commenting on torrents, and rating, and socially liking and sharing, and all kinds of other stuff, and thus google will know, for example, any essential mix search aired in october or later, try "dj name essential mix", if not first in google - then will be in yahoo or bing, if not first 5 pages in google (sometimes it happens) then add "torrent" to search, and it will be 1st or 2nd result 90% of the times. so all this buzz will tell google that stuff here is interesting, and next time similar stuff comes, it will rate us higher in search results. "nicky romero" has never been very popular here, until recently i haven't really seen torrents, so now "nicky romero essential mix" is 10th-11th result - it's fallen from 1st spot, but in a week or two will return to first page. but check who's above? 3 soundclouds (top 500 sites in the world), 3 mixclouds, 1 zippyshare link, and 3 blogs that only do dubstep and mainstream essential mixes. but add torrent to the search phrase? tribalmixes is 1st in google and yahoo, 7th in bing... so after all, it is the combinations of search keywords that produce excellent results. people use those less than 1-2 word search phrases (talking about total searches everywhere), but then those mainstream popular searches still don't make way less than those long 'several word' searches, more specific due to 3-4-5 words in them.. and such searches are called "long tail" and they give total bigger than popular searches, that are big each alone.. hope you see my meaning..

for you, it is a different model of SEO that will work.. you need to concentrate on local searches. first the nearby area where your firm services, then include areas around, best is to have a page for each area or town in your service region as a page on your website. usually all those pages would look similar, and text can be similar, just explaining what where, and to do that you can use article spinners, they can replace some words with synonyms and google will think those are all different pages, if you spin every time new text, so google won't think you're spamming, but will count all pages as different and valuable. try place several main cities or something on your front page on the bottom, just write "installing pvc dograma in city1, area2, village3, etc and all nearby areas." and in a day try searching for "pvc dograma city1/area2/village3" and similar searches.. ok enough.. too long a post again..

it's not necessary so. i would rather say, it's not so. it is complicated. i only know it will insist on showing results that you +1-ed, higher than other results. or that your circles/friends +1-ed. but if you +1-ed index page, it won't show some other page higher for that reason, only if you +1 it too.. to stop that, all you need to do is log out of your google or gmail account while browsing something else. well, that is not all.. it also knows your shares on wordpress, blogger, and many other big social sites...

on the other hand, dont mix this up with suggestive adds. maybe you got those crossed in your mind... adds served by google can be same from site to site, and they might reflect the sites that you've visited lately, or sites similar to those that you've recently visited, i.e. thay keep history and try to tailor adds to your interests..

that is why if i want to know true positions which tribalmixes occupies in search engines, i use third party search tools, which basically initiate my search from some other IP, and results are not customized for me. i have heavy customization, cause of all my blogs and i plus 1 and share tm pages alot and other crap... i get bothered with it.. of course..
