Low Torrent Ratings of 1, 2 & 3 are now to be explained!!!, page 1

hello...

this is a short piece of news... as you might know, one can rate completed/snatched torrents as 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, obviously last one being the best. from now on, though, if you are wishing to rate any torrent with 1, 2 or 3, you will have to explain "why". 4 & 5 - rate all you wish, no explanations needed, but for 3 and below - must explain why, in your opinion, this torrent doesn't deserve a higher rating. no exceptions. your explanations will be headlined with phrase "i rated this torrent so low because...", and then will be posted as a regular comment on this torrent. on top of that, such comments will not be available for later editing, thus, please, consider all you want to write before actually submitting the comment/explanation. rating will only be stored and applied after the explanation is submitted. for now, minimal length of the explanation's text is 100 characters (excluding white spaces longer than 1 space-symbol).

now for the history.. oh well... nothing to explain... i am tired of DJs screwing other DJs' torrents and ratings, going after one another, after someone's fame and fans, while all this destructive energy could be channeled into creativity, some new music, etc. so from now on if you wanna poop on your rival's new mix - be sure to explain, why the poop is appropriate. also uploaders giving low ratings to their fellow uploaders, just because they didn't make it earlier with this torrent (to share it), or maybe just jealous of other uploader's constant harvests of 'thanks' and '5-s'... most of lowest ratings, of course, are given by everyday users.. yes, sometimes set's quality sucks, music is with crowd's talking, or low bitrate, or maybe a million of other reasons to give this torrent a lower rating... then do it! give it a low rating! noone is stopping you! but when you do so, don't hesitate to write, exactly why you're not pleased and unsatisfied. this is all i wanted to say. feel free to join this discussion, if you're thinking my actions are not appropriate, or even more - not legitimate... i am open for any arguments on this battlefield...

Totally agree slash - although one of the great things about the internet is anonymity, shitting on other people for petty reasons is pretty low. As the old saying goes, with power comes responsibility. You have the power to rate someones torrents low, but you SHOULD be responsible enough to explain why. LONG LIVE TM!!

yeah slash i agree with that, i was going to suggest that before the rating is counted, users are redricted to a box and type down what they think. and when its posted, it should before the regular comments, and be titled by "rated lower than 3 user comments"

and even the users who rated 4/5 should get the chance to say what they liked about it, so it can give the DJ's opportunity to feel good about themselves and know what got the crowd pleased

but all in all, this isnt a bad idea.

and for the anonymity kimborio was talking about, those users can rate low, and have a GOOD reason for rating it low, they can have a tick box saying "commented by anonymous". and when its posted anonymous said...

but the reason must be a reasonable one so they can appear anonymous (someone has to read the comments) which is a lot of manpower and reading. its just an idea.

yeah, mb, a bit too much work there... i was gonna suggest to staff now that this is on, for everyone to watch out if some people keep doing this, keep giving low ratings...

as for those who give 4 & 5 - those are usually people left with a good impression from some mix, so if they are nice enough to rate it high, we're not forcing them to comment, while the "comment" button is right there - an inch away from the rate button.. why you say they need to have a chance too? they've had their chances all along, and will always have them - just click the "comment" button. =)

one more, thing just a reference for uploaders of any kind

make sure that you have some thick skin where you can control your temper so low ratings wont affect you. if you like the music, some user rates low. its his/her oppinion and dont get all worked up about it.

cuz i bloody know, at some point some user might push my buttons  

that just a heads up for the uploader/DJ this is the whole point of explaining why the file got a low rating

MB, totally agree - I know that when I post comments, its absolutely to do with the set, NOT who uploaded it. To be honest, I rarely notice and generally care even less who uploaded it - which is not to say that I'm not thankful though - I really am thankful. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I sure as hell don't rate based on who uploaded or who mixed the set.... It's sad that some people do...
