how to keep sharing a file after relocating and renaming, page 1

I just got here yesterday, and i've encountered a problem. After downloading something in a temporary folder i check it, rename and retag it, and move it to the right folder in my database, which currently prevents me from futher sharing that file. So now the only options are either keeping it all in 1 folder which is practicaly impossible, or not sharing it anymore which i don't like to see as an option.
Is there a way i can change or edit something in order to keep sharing it after renaming and moving it?

[EDIT] after a few days of no answers i managed to get most of them to work, guess that's the best option so QATC.

well, no answer usually means it's been discussed many times... but a couple of tips i can give...
  • you can rename the "first" root path of the torrent, and still keep seeding. explaining... in case of single-file torrent, you can change its location and rename file itself; if it is a multi-file torrent, you can rename its main folder and change its location (best not to mess with its insides, as in 'rename them', although it is still possible in some clients to overcome that as well). to start seeding such a moved/changed torrent, you simply need to open its .torrent file again in your client (and it should have been removed from the client before that), and simply to point it to save to wherever you've moved the files. in case of single-file, you'll need to select it as the final place to save the 'new' torrent, and in case of folder - need to select the newly moved folder...
  • you cannot update/edit tags of the mp3 files, delete or misplace any other files in multi-file torrents, such as graphics or tracklists, and still keep seeding. in case of tags changed, or text files edited, or any other physical changes made to the insides of torrents for multi-file ones, the actual torrent data is being changed, thus making it a completely different torrent, only one changed character will do that and torrent will show up as 99.7% done or similar... in case of files missing, torrent will be incomplete as it is, so it will try to download missing parts and will fail if no seeds are there...

    hope this helps...

I've looked at the other topics in this forum, and none of them had discussed these problems (i only looked in those with a decent topic title though).
I managed to get the single file torrents to seed that way, but multi-file torrents didn't work as i rename the files in order to store them so i'm not sharing those anymore. I edited all tags after reseeding them (so after utorrent said they were complete) so they still share but a leecher might end up with other tags.
Also, I tried to edit the torrent files in notepad, but that corrupted them, is there a way to edit just the file name so that it will recognise them but won't corrupt the torrent file?

i'm not sure, but.. think about it... if even files could be changed and edited.. well.. this will all remind me of edonkey/emule... let's not go there.. and let's not edit files and then seed them, because someone else will get a little bif different file, next person combines different+original and gets different2, etc. we're not talking about big differences, but still, one character could mess up alot...

and all in all, if you manage to seed single files only and still keep the good ratio - then who cares how you do it and why... as long as you're not causing any trouble, and good ratio over 1.00 would prove you as untroubling person... =) and your ratio is over 2, which is very good, means you give twice more than you take, so basically it's all good and do not worry about it, just seed what you can, or as a better solution - seed foldered torrents until they are over 1.0, and then move them... it might only take few hours for some...

yea, i'm currently dl'ing mostly everlifes (plenty of those...) and share all i can (without screwing up my database) so my ratio isn't a problem, i was just wondering about the possibility's (why do only that if you can do more :) )

thanks for the info and comment, QATC
