Direct Downloads WERE HERE!!! and gone now..

slash ProDanceCulture on October 14th, 2011 / post 41854
Tribalmixes is now combining the best of two worlds: the world of TORRENTS and the world of DIRECT DOWNLOADS. yes, we finally have both!! starting 14-Oct-2011 all new torrents are seeded at the highest speeds provided by our dedicated servers, and each new torrent is furnished with several Direct Download Links, i.e. you no longer need a torrent client to DOWNLOAD DJ MIXES!!!! this is an achievement that places Tribalmixes WAY AHEAD of the competition, we are now THE MOST UNIQUE resource on the web!! like torrents - max out your download speeds, prefer not to bother with ports and clients - get your Mix-Fix via DIRECT DOWNLOADS, which can also be sped by download-managers, like JDownloader and similar. direct links are available on the torrents-browse page and in torrent details.

if you want to get at least 2 distinct Direct Download Links for your mixes - simply share a torrent on tribalmixes! as soon as SuperSeed3 downloads torrent from you - links will be auto-added to the torrent (you can use them, they will be available for years) and information will be sent to several facebook accounts, twitters, a dozen social networks and 5 DJ Mixes BLOGS! we're all over the place, and we want to MAKE YOUR MUSIC EVEN MORE POPULAR!!! share those link wherever you want, they'll be good for ever!! =) tribalmixes guarantees that!

i asked my girlfriend today about "torrenting". she heard me talk about this for 5 years: torrents, clients, firewalls, ports, etc.. i asked her about it.. she told me, she knew a client was a program, like utorrent. "opening ports?? you crazy???" that's it... but direct links - she understands... so i really hope we will start speaking to all average users without tech knowledge.

before in 2005-2006 tribalmixes was 1 of 3-4 resources doing dj mixes as torrents (seriously), and there were maybe 2-3 direct download sites.. people would suffer looking for those links, rapishare was just appearing, so direct-downloaders suffered.. but torrents thrived! and if you wanted dj mixes - you had to learn torrenting and come either to tribalmixes or to themixingbowl. now bandwidth is so cheap, rapishare and similar sites are eating off alot of market and human traffic from torrent sites. while monsters like thepiratebay and isohunt are still strong, sites like tribalmixes are losing people... so it is the right time to join both parallels - torrents and downloads.

Slash, i trust ur judgement coz u put a lot of energy to the site.
However if this was created to those who have no tech knowledge than i have some doubts with fw-ing the such ppl to wupload and friends where 90% of the page is about pay, pay, pay etc. They will still need to learn how the direct dl works (find the link, wait, limits etc). With the same they could learn how to use torrent..

true, but there's a catch in everything. with out current none-profit (donations based) financial model, we simply cannot afford anything but the things we can afford for free - either torrents (free but technical, handled by users themselves) or file hosting services (free but with wait times, possible limits, etc). again, SUPERSEED3 can be bounded, limited to certain upload speeds and data amounts, while direct downloads hosted by us on our server (without wait and stuff) would require a strong programming front and back end just to limit the data transfers and bandwidth usage so as not to endanger site's stable and fast response times, which can be done in the future, with an extra dedicated server existing just for downloads. i can't dream about renting such a server right now for one simple reason - we have no money even for our main server rent, we have $50 while $130 is needed. monthly. i am about to write my next "global call for donations"..  so, well, this is not really easy - having the mixes and hosting them too...

ps. still, no link-finding and waiting and all can be compared to opening ports in your routers and firewalls, don't you agree? the latter requires time, testing, disabling and enabling firewalls, finding info and a bunch of other things...

You are simply telling the truth!!

Also: I myself I have the problem of p2p throttling at the moment which drives me towards direct downloads a lot. I will nevertheless try to use torrents as much as possible...

Edit: I just read the descriptions on the upload page. I upload any torent to superseed3 before it becomes public?? Wow, that is a nice way to work around any download/upload p2p throttling issues. I will immediately try and upload an SBD torrent

not exactly. the torrent will be available to everyone on tribalmixes from the moment you upload it, but it will be sent out there, to the wild wide web, when superseed3 has it. we are trying to have our links and our mixes and our torrents (and everything else ours) out there too, outside of tribalmixes... you know? cause now tm gets most newest mixes mere minutes after they've been released... being the leader, we want others to join us... thus all the out-side promotion through blogs, social networks, and other stuff... and as soon as superseed3 completes your torrent - it's all happening...

ps. if you don't want tm users to see the torrent, you can set it as invisible through editing its details, but it'll still show in rss feeds and all, so it's not really possible to hide it completely until superseed has it. maybe later i will do a special ftp folder drop-box where those, who doesn't wanna do torrents, will upload their mp3s, and superseed will share them.. i just cannot really trust EVERYONE, if you know what i mean... but it already works this was with INSOMNIAFM torrents, - radio owner uploads them here, and superseed3 does its magic, while original upload is under InsomniaFM's user-name, check it out https://www.tribalmixes.com/userdetails.php?id=148436 there was a fresh torrent just a few minutes ago..

I work as a web developer and have 5+ years of experience. I'd be happy not only to code the advanced frontend and backend for direct-download-tribalmixes server, for free, but also to donate some money for it and run the server, and maintain it, and be the part of tribalmixes crew. I'd be happy if you reach me directly. Yes, I'm serious :-)

this sounds great, thanks. but you don't think that i am sitting here and manually uploading those files to file-servers, right? that would be a hell of a job... our server does everything, i, on the other hand, have already programmed both front- and back-ends, and am working on other projects right now. if you're willing to donate for our current server rent, i'd be really happy. thanks.

No, I know that this upload process is all automated. Any chance of doing anything else besides donating for TM current server rent? I'd be glad to help.

and direct downloads are gone...

they are reappearing one time for the IDC 2012 torrents, and might return for limited time periods later, but in general we're not messing with direct downloads anymore..
playloud999 user on February 4th, 2012 / post 42831
why not they wore great,i for one have a good internet conection but still can't maintain a good ratio here so the links really helped
slash ProDanceCulture on February 14th, 2012 / post 42895
yeah, they might have helped, but they are gone now.. we're a torrent-community. at the end of the day, links produced 10 times less downloads than torrents did (and do), so they were not popular on tribalmixes, although they did help out those who only wanted 1 mix in 1 year and didn't want to register (for to get that 1 mix, mostly essential mixes).. i've spend lots of time setting it all up, automatizing and learning to use those file-hosting services' APIs, i did acquire some new knowledge, so it was a good run...
